Completed GTA IV. Definitely one of the greatest video games ever made.

  2. CalmTree2315

It was quite good, the dlc’s were also good.

It’s strange how these things go back and forth.

When it was released GTA 4 was hailed as perfect just like OP has said.

However, there was a point when the opinion turned against it slightly. I remember plenty of people saying it was overrated and levied numerous criticisms at the game

Now, a further decade or so has passed and people are back saying it’s flawless

I’m not saying either way is correct just interesting how these things go.

Hard agree. I am definitely biased because I was about 13 when this came out and it was the first PS3 gen game that felt (at the time) like a generational leap. Will never forget being in awe playing through this game, it gave me an itch for immersive crime stories that barely any other franchise or game have been able to compete with

man, liberty city is wild. the nostalgia is real!

  6. Freedlefox

It had more impact on me than 5. To go on that long brutal journey with Nico – it felt epic. I appreciate the experimentation of 3 playable characters in 5, but it diluted the emotional impact of the game.

The only complaint is the driving. Even high end sports cars under steer terribly and body roll is pronounced it feels like your turning a ship and the whole thing leans over. GTA V nailed the driving feel a lot better, cars seem more predictable on how they will drive based on how a sports car or muscle car or truck would in real life. Like driving a heavy vehicle uphill slows you down a lot, most classic muscle cars have poor handling, jdms handle well but are lacking in speed, ect. I tried to go back and play gta4 after getting into racing games like assetto corsa and I just can’t do it.

  8. Way better than V. There are pieces of the whole that are great about V. But as a whole, it’s not that great. At least story-wise. If you never played free GTA 4 online back in 2008, I pity you.

I love seeing people say it’s worse than gta 5 and then get downvoted. Love you guys for that

  10. Radiant_Pudding5133

Loved GTA4, did a replay last year and it’s still class.

Personally my favourite in the series; I loved the grittiness of the story.

The DLCs are great too. Was gutted GTA5 never received similar single player DLC.

  11. Booshakajones

Really? I’ve tried twice to get past the first like 10 missions and I just can’t so janky and boring

  12. Tight-Paramedic-967

    OMG i read VI….for a second i was like: ” It is out????” 🤣

  13. dewittless

I wish there was a way to play it that wasn’t either backwards compatibility on Xbox or the terrible PC port.

  14. SteelRidge_Cat_1377

There’s talk of a possible port coming to PlayStation 4 and 5 soon don’t know about Xbox or PC yet. I’m hoping it’s true.

I need to play GTA 4 again, my memories of it weren’t that great but I probably didn’t really appreciate it for what it was at the time.

The only thing i truly remember is how annoying Roman is haha

If that remaster rumour is true I’d definitely pick it up again

  16. From that screen, it looks like it’s set in Mexico.

  17. Intelligent_Rub528

I tried to like rly hard. But in the end it was to dull and sad for my taste. At least for gta.

  18. SuperSexyKoala

The most boring missions. Kill here, kill there. Yeah, atmosphere is good, but game is so boring…

  19. null-interlinked

Because the more grounded nature, I preferred it over 5 which went a bit overboard with the whole Trevor thing imo.

  20. ArianneSexy25

still waiting for them to remaster this masterpiece

  21. I’m waiting for the enhanced (rumored) port to release.

  22. SnooChickens3871

It was a great game. Loved the setting, loves the story, loved the characters. I get why a lot didnt like it. Im a northeast guy so i “get” most of it. If youre from like kansas you wont get it. It was gritty, raw and emotional. It was nyc.

Plus, i absolutely loved the soundtrack. Imo the best gta soundtrack. Any game that has leeway and murphys law in it is a winner in my book

  23. cincobarrio

I can hear this screenshot *[soviet connection]*

  24. Dude I just stared a play through after more than a decade. It’s so fucking good it’s ridiculous

  25. LordDragon88

It’s quite difficult too. I remember some missions had difficult driving parts. Niko is probably my favorite gta antagonist

  26. solblurgh

This belongs to /r/patientgamers, anyway great job!

  27. roguenarok

People keep shitting on IV’s driving mechanic & physic but goddammit i love it, & I also love IV’s vehicle damage compared to V’s, yeah IV’s vehicle damage is unrealistic but imo it’s better then V’s.

  28. My first GTA was GTA: SA. Loved the hell out of it. Then GTAV. Awesome banter back and forth.

Then I tried GTAIV. I am not sure if its my tv screen or something, but everything was so dark. I tried playing but the game never kept me interested. The game was “dry”? And Nico didnt appeal to me.

I may try again, if I have the time in future.

  29. Omisco420

Excellent game. Though I felt they scrubbed some
Of the minute details that made San Andreas so great. Such as eating to get fat, working out to get jacked, going to the martial arts gym to train new moves(which would then in turn change your normal melee attacks) and so much more. Really hoping we get some of that stuff back in 6!

  30. marcusthemighty

GTA4 felt like all the good gangsta and actionmovies of the 90s.

GTA5 by far has the better sandbox but feels like an Amazon series.

  31. Neilix190

It’s still the only Gta game I haven’t completed its on my list!

  32. SearchStack

This was my GTA online, head up to get the Sultan RS and rip about, chaos at the airport, glitching the statue, raid the prison, played this game for hours online with friends

  33. Iggy_Slayer

All I can remember about this game is how neutered it was compared to san andreas. We lost just about everything that game had except helicopters and it was the start of rockstar shifting to its hyper realism focused design mindset.

  34. KeyTwo6986

My heart stopped for a second there! Thought it was GTA 6.

  35. Eh, I never liked the way cars handled in 4. It’s been forever, but I think they felt too floaty or too loose. Something like that. I spent years with the engine behind 3, VC and SA. That shit felt tight and reliable. When 4 came out, it just felt so off that it completely threw me off of the game.
