Rare pixel art image of Sagat without his scar

Video games undergo a tremendous amount of permutations while they’re in development, and Capcom Fighting Evolution, which was released in October 2004 is no exception.
Included as part of the recently released Capcom Fighting Collection 2, this game was originally going to feature Street Fighter 1’s (1987) cast, including Sagat without his scar, Retsu and Eagle.
“Here’s something we’ve never released before. We were going to have the ‘Original Street Fighter’ team appear in Capcom Fighting Evolution,” wrote Street Fighter 6’s director, Takayuki Nakayama.
“This is the pixel art we made for that. Since this is the Street Fighter 1 version, you’ll notice the lack of [Sagat’s] trademark chest scar,” he stated.
“This is a very rare image that comes straight from the development cutting room floor,” concluded Nakayama.
It would have been very interesting if Street Fighter 1’s entire cast made it into Capcom Fighting Evolution, as while the game wasn’t heavily panned by critics, it generally received a tepid response.
It’s possible with an increased roster size the game may have received a better response from the community, especially since we haven’t see a number of Street Fighter 1’s cast members playable in an official Capcom fighting game.
