When I was around 20 playing csgo I befriended and played with a man in his 40s. He had the reaction time of molasses but he was smart and positioned well and he kept racking up the frags. Learned a lot from just watching him play. Together I don't think we passed DMG but hey, just goes to show that smarts can get you quite far I reckon. Eventually I got Global but I always remembered the times back in DMG.
Bro I hear ya, I started gaming back in 1999 in RougeSpear (rainbow six game) I ended up going to LANs in Sweden etc, played RTCW, COD 1&2 for top UK teams.
i turned 40 in Jan – I also played CS, on and off back in the day – I got back into gaming in Covid and got an XBOX series X got a MNK, cous I couldn’t afford a PC – it’s taken me a while but I made diamond rank in bo6, I play 2-8hrs a week (depending on how busy work is kids etc) and I’m playing against kids on controller who play does hours a day.
I still hold my own, I’m looking to get a PC and return to PC gaming as I’m sick of aim assist I’m gonna give CS a good crack when I do and I know my aim isn’t what it was but there is no decent aim training on Xbox I’m gonna practice like mad when I get the chance, I wanna see how far I can push, it’s like anything practice in = results out. I’m rubbish at football but if I put 4hrs a day in for 3 years I’d be serviceable.
Man I am 27 and used to play CS competitive religiously, a crazy number of hours. Took a break from it when Siege came out and dumped my time into that, then when I came back I felt like I couldn't enjoy CS anymore. Now in general I feel too old for twitch shooters like CS or CoD. I am loving The Finals lately but I play a decidedly more support focused role. Being as good as you are in your 40s is huge, big respect.
Also I really appreciate the more mature editing style of this video compared to 90% of CS related vids that go crazy on music and transitions. This was just chill and candid, love it.
as an adult who has got to work full time i find it impossible to play any competitive game, like i get to play around 20 hrs / week at most. there's kids out there who play these games 12-16 hrs / day, know for a fact cause that's what i used to do as a kid instead of studying now i work for minimum wage, i'm single and sick…. what i am is a victim of drugs, games and porn…. good luck kids ( :::
I think reflexes are like muscles, or cardio. I think you can train them to keep at top level, but I am am 30 now. I value getting a black belt in BJJ some day, getting my carpentry degree, weight training over being global in CS2.
Played for around four Years CS 1.6 in a Team in my Area, we drove to LAN Parties and won some Local Tournaments…it was a great Time. I tried to pick CS 2 up, I still got some Moves and Game Sense, but I suck so much at Throwing Grenades/Aim in some Situations – all those Angles to learn. I'm 37 Years old, so I just play for Fun now
Im currently 36, almost 37 and I feel like I might be getting to old. I deff cant react like the 18 year old but I love the game, I love the team game play. I love working with a group of friends torwar a goal. As long as you love the game and you enjoy playing it you should play competitive. You just have to find yourself a group of people that you can add and grow with them. All the people I play with now are people I met while playing the game and we all grew our skills together… you share the highs and lows of the game with them and they don't make you feel bad for an off day. You got this and keep grinding
Dropped the game for over a decade at 16 y.o. I probably could've been the goat if I didn't. Picked it up again as soon as I heard CS2 is coming out and its been a love hate relationship. There's always been a lot of cheaters in the game, I do honestly thing the whole esports thing is sort of a scam, but the laughs I get from being called a cheater after reading the match and going freestyle, especially in low to modetate elo, can be worth it.
Remember its just a game and have fun. I get the most out of it when I can IGL a bunch of random people into doing strats and actually teach them a thing or two.
29 yo but getting called a grandpa from time to time, probably cause of the 10 years badge.
playing anything competitive every while gives you a great drive for life, i'm very glad that you didn't keep that teenage competitive thought stay there as just a "what if"
I think the most important part of these fast paced shooters is focusing on playing for your fellow team-mate; effective communication. It is so easy to think "If I carry the team we will win." but more than not if you can't swing, trade or smoke with the team… the objective becomes forgotten and you WILL lose the game/round. Of course you have to carry your own when it comes down to basic roles, but there is a reason you're playing with 4 teammates and not on your own. If I can use an example: the clip you showed on casual mirage where half the team went A, it left Mid wide open. Sacrificing the position you usually play to cover a weak spot should be everyone's objective. Winning will come naturally then.
To add, some things that make a well rounded player: -Map awareness (knowing which sites are CT/T sided and entrypoint/chokepoints) -In game awareness (basically try and imagine your self as the enemy and counter what you think you would do, CS is essentially chess then.) -Aware of teammate's weakness/Enemy weakness (spot trends and cover/exploit where possible) -Being friendly 😉 -Communication Lastly: -Movement/Aim
Comming to think about this, and realized cs 1.6 was kinda like roblox is today. If you get bored on public servers you had: HNS Surf Deathrun BunnyHop Catch Mod Zombie Mod Superhero Mod Just to name a few. We had like minigames inside of the game so you could never really get bored playing. And a most toxic community after Call of Duty. xD
Interesting question how much the skill from having played the older games would transfer to cs2.
I'm now also approaching 40 years and played the shit out of cs "sauce" when it came out for about 5 years. Probably averaging about 5 hours per day with several matches each night. Recently, after a cs abstinence of about 14 years (completely skipped CS:GO) I had the pleasure to play some CS2 on a friend's PC and it was a really interesting experience.
Some things were actually still quite ingrained and easy to do like the fast double weapon switch after an awp shot.
Altogether though it was like I could still do everything but it all took a bit longer. Not necessarily due to reaction time but rather the "processing" time, knowing the play the enemy is probably gonna do or whether I should pull out a flash bang or do something else.
So whilst it does feel rusty and a bit awkward it definitely doesn't feel like something I haven't done for 14 years and it was a lot of fun for sure!
never too old to just have fun and play any game. I do find CS2 have the battle won is have the right gear such as a really good headphone to pick foot steps and environment noise then its a matter ofd knowing the stage and where all the hiding spots are and last is JUST BEING PATIENCE and not running in guns blazing
ive been playing cs since 2001 in cyber cafes at that time. 1.5 version was my thing. 1.6 with the shields and stupid galil and famas just didnt cut it for me plus the horrible weapon models. 1.5 models look much better for me. 1.6 knife looks horrendous. of course i play 1.6 but with 1.5 models. im 36.
Came up on my recomended great video, As a 37 year old who played in the UK competitive scene cs 1.5 through to cs:go would love to know the player/team you refered to at the beginning of your story. Also if you are ever after a group of similar aged guys who still bang out the occasional faceit game give me a shout.
I tried cs2, didnt like the physics and sounds of the game. You dont need to make jump to cs2, 1.6 is still alive in public servers. A bit harder if u want 5×5 comp games tho.
Skill vs having to get a masters degree in a game… I'd love for a good FPS to come out where you never play the same map twice. Maybe a similar version ir amall variations in a good map, but knowing every angle and counting down the seconds for a prefire blah blah. Ruins it in my opinion. I'd rather everyone just go in and have to discover the map for the first time.
I'm 37 ! Played since cs 1.3 ! Represented my country at eswc 2006 i was 18 yo . I started again in 2017-2018 with no real purpose just nostalgia ! Lvl 10 face it . Nickname rGd
I'm 54 and play Premier as often as I can. 6.3k hrs since 2017. I would say I am pretty competitive, (Definately give the kids in Arms Race a very good go – usually place 1st ,2nd or 3rd ) but I consider myself more of a support player on the team but still clutch from time to time. Have a far better utility rate than most of the players I play with. Reaction time is the only area that I have an obvious disadvantage. Love the game, but hate the cheaters…

Damn, this brings it back.
Me & my team used to be pretty good back when. Scrimming against mixed 4k, OMG, h5, and such, and yeah, using IRC. Hahaha.
Memories…

I´m 56 and still playing
As a 32 year old cs pplayer I totally agree with you on this, still my love for cs 1.6 is much more than today's cs.
Dropped the game for over a decade at 16 y.o.

41 this year. Haven't played on a high level in 20 years but I still play like people play Sunday league football.
45 here. Returned after 13 years to cs2
I am 40 years old. Havent played till 1.5 version…..
Is ok, just too much hackers. The rest is awsome.
Bro you are in your 40s, I'm 56 bro and still rockin CS2 but I can tell you there is way much cheater now than CS1.6

Eye sight is my biggest drawback these days. Should make a +40 league 😉
Damn the vibes brother ! You have good shot ! Wishing you the best !
i'm 40. I'm decent at cs2. I used to play lots of 1.6

If you think 40 is old, you’re still a little kid, and my Steam account is probably older than you. BOOM, HEADSHOT!

Dude, age is only a number. I play CS2 every day and I'm 49. Solo queue is tough, play with friends.
I'm 50, saw the title and thought this will be a vid I can relate too. Sadly not lol, this guy has skills.

Also, cheaters should go to gaming jail.
38 here and level 10 elo. I dont think i feel whittled down. Still very competitive.
I started in CS:Source then went to BF2 etc… But yeah, I am back on CS2!
I'm 37 ! Played since cs 1.3 ! Represented my country at eswc 2006 i was 18 yo . I started again in 2017-2018 with no real purpose just nostalgia ! Lvl 10 face it . Nickname
rGd"FACEIT have a quite good anti-cheat". I was rolling on the floor of laughing.

Same. Just started again after nearly 20 years. Played a lot in very early cs days pre steam. Loved it. Loved the team play and camaraderie
Welcome to cs2
im 39 and im just getting back into it myself, i on the other hand use to play quite serious back on source and early CSGO but 2 i struggled to get back into, im enjoying it atm but its early days again, Premier is quite good, dont get encounter many cheaters, but some very angry people now and then, mute buytton on the fly comes in handy lol
