
What are your experiences in using PTM7950 with 9800X3D ? Many have reported that you can gain about 10C better temps with it compared to some thermal pastes. I have tested many thermal pastes from MX-3 -> MX-6, Kryonaut and Noctua NT-H1 and more or less they were very close to each other. PTM7950's best advantage seems to be durability if you are not replacing your thermal paste once-twice a year.

It seems to provide most benefits on GPU rather than CPU from everything I’ve seen.

I don’t think that 10C diff is legit tho, the YouTuber could have made a small mistake that caused it.
Generally speaking, we want both ends of the ptm7950 to have high temps so that it melts better, so having an AIO on the other side wasn’t the best use of ptm.
I never even put regular paste to 9800x3d. They only match ptm7950 if applied perfectly and first year of use.
10 degrees is kinda far fetched I think. Either the stock comparative paste was totally bad or improper contact on the stock setup. Not 9800X3D and not the Honeywell, I have a 7945HX from minisforum BD790i with Gelid Heatphase Ultra instead and the result was improved about 6-8 degrees celsius on SFF system with these phase changing pads but it was also done with a bit of a case modding to increase airflow, so the actual gain from changing to pads is probably about half that instead.
I would still recommend getting these pads though for the reason you already mentioned, but be careful of scam PTM as Honeywell doesn’t actually sell these to consumer directly, rather companies buying them in bulk.
I use it because it does better than a graphene pad thermals wise. But has longevity long enough for my use case.
It’s especially good for bare die applications like GPU and laptops. Ptm also sells in a paste form but it’s pretty annoying to spread. Moddiy is my go to place for it. But if you can find the right size thermal grizzly also sells a phase change pad.
I swapped from noctua to helios(ptm) and cpu bracket, d15s cooler. Got 1-2C at best. Both tests with overclocked 9800x3d.
So touch better, pita to install, not needed for daily, but for OC I’ll take everything

I’ve used it on my 9800x3d with a LF2 280mm aio. Temps wise i didn’t notice any differences but it seems to maintain higher frequencies abit better. I did stress test and undervolt which made a bigger difference to the temps
10C is never happening.
Ptm7950 works wonderful on my aircooler, lowered max temp at full load from 89 degrees to 83 degrees running looping cinebench.
If should perform on par with good, new thermal paste.
It will perform better than bad or degraded/pumped out thermal paste, which for cheap thermal paste can happen quite quickly.
10C is unrealistic for the first scenario, but might be in the right ballpark for the second.
PTM loves directdie, high wattage, high temps and high colplate installation pressure. GPUs have massive power usage and directdie. Desktop cpus have IHS and overall low thermal density compared to gpus and laptop cpu directdie application.
In laptops, even with low mounting pressure, the improvements are gigantic. It is the only paste that can survive in my F15 2021 with 11800H OCed to 5ghz (17k CB23 140w), overclocked ram, 3060 mobile with vbios mod from 95 to 130w (from 140w stock cpu+gpu in game to 210w overclocked and modded). Every single other thermal paste pump out in a month, degrade really fast or don’t have the same performance. It’s in that laptop from 2022, and still allow for top global benchmark scores in a notoriously bad cooled laptop
Someone has tested liquid metal, ptm and many different thermal pastes with a 14900k under cb23 loop with air cooling, and PTM was on top of every single paste and only behind liquid metal, and being closer to liquid metal in term of temps
Phase change performs better on direct die like GPU or laptops.
So im one of those rare people who put ptm7950 on brand new 9800x3d because apparently it doesn’t need to be repasted in a long time. I have arctic freezer 3 360 liquid cooling also with 100% pump speed. So my current temps are essentially 39-42 degrees idle, 80 degrees r23 10 min run, average 60 degrees in heavy gaming. I expected a little bit better but keep in mind i didn’t undervolt cpu at all yet (all stock in bios for cpu) so maybe its not bad, and the rest of my radiators are not running at 100% under heavy load. If those temps will hold for 2 years+ then it was worth it to put ptm
