they just take up more room and are slightly more annoying to plug things into the back of, but I don’t see why this would be “too impractical to use long-term”

  2. obito07

Being show pieces, they are impractical by nature.

  3. EnzoF89

Honestly not sure but I’ll roll with the tank 💥

  4. RimRunningRagged

I think my main concern would be the unusual orientation may cause case fans to “chuff” and be imbalanced, and therefore wear out faster. Also very annoying to clean dust off of some of the more complex designs.

  5. w_StarfoxHUN

Well depends on how frequently you plan to upgrade. On average after the intial setup of who knows how long, you likely wont even need to touch it for years except cleaning. And ideally cleaning is just removing a dust filter and such, wont require disassembly, but ofc that depends on the case itself.
Also when building and upgrade you will have to be sure the parts (mainly the gpu) will fit, as these have pretty strict size limitations usually, but thats no big deal, just something to be avare of.

  6. SearchForAShade

The cube, pyramid, and boat to a lesser extent, all look decently practical, at least. The shark and chandeliers look like a nightmare to deal with.

  7. HolyDori

We’re not using it you are, that’s a question for you.

  8. NadaBurner

You might be limited in terms of motherboard size but realistically it’s up to you to pick a case that’s suits your fancy

  9. Thick-Background-260

You need a hell of a desk for these

  10. PastaVeggies

They take up room, dust is their worst enemy. I would imagine they are also a pain to work on if you ever need to upgrade or anything

  11. Nooke_LXVII

It’s kinda like, do you have room on your desk for a PC, or do you have room on your desk for art, what’s your priority

I had a pretty standard case a while ago, Corsair airflow something, and switched to a formd t1 for size, and the first time you build in the formd it’s kinda hard to assemble, but doing modifications to it I’ve found it to be easier since you can disassemble the whole thing and access any part without having to be super dexterous

  12. Featherforged

Many of these cases are very expensive

The case just protects the inside from dust, objects, and pets.

You can essentially mount pc hardware to anything if you’re crazy enough.

I once had a pc build duct taped to a microwave because it was easy.

  13. imaginary_num6er

That Shark case is ludicrously expensive IIRC

  14. VioletDev0608

these cases are usually pretty low quality

  15. Impressive-Repeat274

why do i want the tank now

  16. MemeNinja188

Depends on your desk space. If you’ve recently invaded Poland then you should be fine with most of these. If you haven’t done that yet, then the tank case would be optimal for doing so, and it should also be a good case.
But seriously, the gawdy ones like the shark and chandelier would be hard to clean and maintain, everything else is fairly easy to maintain. LinusTechTips and GamersNexus both made livestreams building PCs in the tank case if you’re interested in learning more about it and how practical it is.

  17. pikpikcarrotmon

The only thing I would specifically avoid is one that has fans at an odd angle. I’ve heard that if they’re not horizontal or vertical they can wobble and get damaged.

  18. Substantial_Law_842

The last one is a cool concept, except it doesn’t seem to function as an actual deal stand or anything like this.

A case like this that acted as its own monitor stand/mount, with (perhaps modular) storage on the side would be super cool, and functional.

  19. kongerlonger

From my experience, number 3 was a horrible build experience

  20. amanindandism

I’m still running my original case from the early 2000s. The size of modern GPUs and CPU coolers means I have to be careful when I overhaul it but it still works just fine. As long as you keep all the bits and bobs for whatever case you get you can use it almost indefinitely but the more unusual the design the more challenges you will have as things change over the years.

  21. candiedbunion69

Those cases are neat, but I can see them having thermal problems.

  22. WhyAreOldPeopleEvil

If I wanted to pay someone to design my room around one of those cases I would, but I’m not about to do that.

  23. MRxSLEEP

    Impractical doesn’t matter of you’re a tank.

  24. Pixel72

Cleaning nightmare most of the time. Sometimes standard parts don’t fit quite right so you might need to modify things or be forced to buy proprietary or smaller parts which tend to be generally more expensive. The cases themselves are also expensive on top of that. Also if you need to service it in the future for whatever reason it’ll probably be annoying to deal with.

They look cool tho, don’t get me wrong.

  25. Vogt156

At the end of the day it is just a computer. Unlike a designer race car.

  26. TehWildMan_

I’m a tiny apartment guy, that much floor space for a desktop PC case is laughable.

  27. Narissis

I find most of these really tacky. That cube, tho…

  28. FormulaCarbon

As a tank nerd, that tank case makes me very, very angry

  29. StrayWalnut

I have seen the cube irl and it’s probably the only one of these I would use

  30. megabit2

It’ll probably be fine just unimaginably horrible to build yourself

  31. AreMeOfOne

Once the PC is built and plugged in you typically don’t touch it for any reason other than to hit the power button or plug/unplug external devices. The chandelier/sculpture types appear to be the most impractical for the latter reason and also because PC’s are dust magnets. These would be incredibly tedious to clean.

  32. ainudinese

To be honest, that tank case do goes hard though.

  33. KillerSpectre21

    Unfortunately yes

They tend to take up a lot of space compared to a regular PC with a weird layout to build in and often ineffective cooling which are then pain in the ass to clean and maintain.

Also they’re often extremely expensive as they’re generally built in very limited quantities or specifically as showpieces for events.

I do however really like the DeepCool Quadstellar as it’s got a ton of space inside for all the drives I’d ever need to cram all the Steam games I have no time to play on.

The original one is even cooler as the front vent things were electronically operated and moved to help with cooling.

  34. If you have the space these are all sick as fuck

  35. NewUserWhoDisAgain

If you like to tinker with your PC I bet it will be come a pain at some point. If you’re more a “set it and forget it” type, then no.

  36. CrazzyPanda72

Most of them could tie onto a themed room of some kind, but the main problem with cases like these (except the desk one) is space, like you rather have to live with a Decepticon beside your head/legs forever, or manage cable from a little table beside your desk, and that just brings an annoyance when/if you changed your peripherals.

But no, in a proper setting or with a DGAF mindset, these are just fine

  37. ariesmartian

They’re all impractical, but they’re cool af. 😎

  38. Leather_Initial_3609

I have a tower300 mounted on its side and from experience having to remove a panel, a fan cage, maneuver a cable through 2 small cut outs already packed with other cables with one hand and pass it to the other to plug something in with the creepy 2 finger grip just to lose the 50/50 on usb direction then put stuff back together is an absolute nightmare. I can only imagine if it was also shaped like a tank
