Touhou Dream Duel, a fighting game apparently set in the Touhou universe, has been revealed on Steam. It is set to be released at some point in 2025.
The characters reveal thus far are Marisa, Alice, Sakuya and Yukari. Of course, Touhou Dream Duel is likely to feature a roster consisting entirely of female characters considering that this is a theme of the Touhou universe.
According to the Steam page, players will be able to customize their supers, specials and “system cards” for each of their characters. Despite being a fighting game, there’s an interesting deck building system that’s apparently important to the game’s mechanics.
There will also be a weather system that can impact certain aspects of character traits. Though details are scarce at the moment, it’s noted that the weather isn’t random and is instead something in which the players themselves can influence.
Within the screenshots, we can see that each character is armed with a health bar, two bars below their health bar (potentially for supers), five more bars at the bottom of the screen that appears to hold each player’s selected deck cards and five hexagons (potentially for EX specials).
Touhou Dream Duel appears to be an unofficial project being developed by ALICE in 幻想LAND. Fortunately, the official owner of the Touhou series has always been supportive of fan projects, though he isn’t known to officially license them.
Typically, the Touhou franchise is known for being a series of “bullet hell” games that’s particularly popular in Japan. Thanks to a number of fan projects, the Touhou series has also ventured into a number of other video game genres.
There is no trailer as of right now, but the Steam page has provided numerous screenshots of the gameplay. Check it all out below:
