I had some spare ddr4 ram, storage, Rtx 2070, a faux fireplace, and a dream. I was able to slap this together for about $350 thanks to all the used parts I refuse to throw out. But it runs great, doesn’t overheat, and is surprisingly capable of entry level 4k in the few older games she’s tried so far. Just not at max graphics obviously. The 7 year old upper-mid tier (by 2018 standards) 2070 is definitely putting in some work and it seems to be maxing out its 8gb of vram, but not enough to cause any noticeable stuttering.
(Nobody tell her that I could have sold the used stuff for a couple hundred, she doesn’t need to worry about the sunk costs)
Cities skylines 1 multiplayer mod managed 4k 50-60fps on the default graphics settings. But house flippers 2 required dropping down to 1080p. Those extra cores and ram really shine in those sim games.
The faux fireplace is just a light show with a simple blower heater above the “flames”. So it acts as a powerful exhaust fan without heating up the back/inside of the fireplace at all. I was overruled when I wanted to put some argb strips for a cool backlight but I’d say it turned out quite well for a stealth build. I still need to put those loose wires in some raceway I have laying around somewhere.

Good job man
How’s the airflow?
Excellent!
compromises always lead to great solutions
bravo.
(how you do in summer?)
I see that even Inspector Doggo approves 😀
When are you installing the trunking or are you going to hide the cables in the wall cavity (mad lad style)?
Edit: (stupid phone) This looks great, my wife would love this! 10/10!
Dog tax plz
For more hiddenness get a cable shroud for 10 bucks. Nice build!
Dog: “I want a gaming rig too. I mean. Woof”
Looks great. All that’s left is to run those cables behind the wall and it will look clean af
So refreshing to see this stuff in the middle of the builds where the case and rbg cost as much as the hardware.
i adore this
Doge approves 🫡
Imagine not wanting to see the beautiful, supple curves of your 5090. I have literally no idea what women want.
Omg i love it
Cities Skylines 2 still needs more time in the oven.
That build will Run C:S2 just fine. She won’t have the ultra graphics but the Sim will run just fine. I have a 5700x and 32 GB of DDR4 and I play it.
using geforce now would be easier
Pretty fire build there, bro.
