I guess Shadows wasn’t the big hit that Ubisoft told the public it was.

funny use of the word burn.
Esc777
The market is only as wise as the average investors.
Ubisoft doing the right thing is getting them punished by the stock market.
Valve meanwhile is never beholden to the stock market.
Adreme
I mean what else would it use to develop games?

Surprise to no one!
Though it was this very subreddit that, just 2 months ago, assured me how great things were going and that Ubisoft was fine. I said it then, and I will say it again; Ubisoft is fucked. The profitable parts of the company have been picked clean by Tencent for pennies on the dollar.
It is absolutely the most satisfying downfall to watch, given their extreme anti-consumer leadership in the Guillemot family.

Of course Ubisoft is burning money. AAAA games are expensive to develop! /s

Good, let it die already

They need to focus on quality instead of quantity
StillFly100
Hating on Ubisoft – so hot right now. I enjoy most their games 🤷🏽

Burn Ubisoft Connect from existence and I will buy your next game – no matter what it is.
IronGin
Have they tried making good games?
I’ve heard that generates money, but I’m no expert.
NIN-1994
What about that massive circle jerk that formed around shadows and how it saved the company
starBux_Barista
it’s over for Ubi unless they start making Based Games again
GStarG
Title is very poorly worded since obvious a Video Game Company is designed to turn Cash into Games lol
What they meant to say is they’re burning additional time and money into developing their games to address issues with quality.
Goldman1990
do they really have 20% to drop, at this point?
Theleas
games that nobody wanna play
Gradedcaboose
At this point, I just hope the company falls low enough for a takeover. Ubisoft will never become a better company till the people in charge fuck off.
I feel for all the devs who actually put their heart and soul into their games. They don’t deserve to get treated like shit and laid off due to upper management fucking up.
Dirtycoinpurse
I know it’s easier said than done, but just make good games. So much of their crap is filled with filler. They have the resources.
tenken08
For better or worse, Ubisoft will be fine. Or at least fine for now.
Tencent just gave them a $1.25 billion dollars cash injection as a new minority holder of the Guillemot family led IP subsidiary that will house their biggest IPs such as Assassin’s Creed, Tom Clancy’s, and their biggest internal development studios (leaving the Guillemots in power and control).
And that’s just Tencent, as I know Ubisoft probably worked to get other potential minority partners on board.
So they can weather this storm right now, whether we like it or not.
Of course, they can’t have too many misses again like last fiscal year or that $1.25 billion can be gone in an instant if they aren’t too careful.
Edit: the other shareholders aren’t happy with the share price drop, of course. But as long as Tencent is on their side, and especially with this new separate subsidiary, they bought themselves a lot of time.

# Ubisoft shares drop by 20% as it burns.

Quebec removed tax rebates for game makers and special effects, those industries are in big big trouble and no one is more at risk than ubisoft
I think it’s over for them, they’re gonna get bought and sold for parts, at best, soon
Rarglar
Ubisoft has made the exact same game for 15 years now and they still suck at it. What is going on over there?
Significant-Dog-8166
This is why game developers shouldn’t be publicly traded stocks. Ubisoft is doing what Rockstar does, and the market punishes the stock. Now a CEO will be legally obligated to “do something” about it. Usually that ends up being layoffs to “cut costs”. Except those layoffs don’t factor in the money invested in onboarding and training new employees. So once the stock rebounds, they will have to hire again, onboard and train again and years of internal knowledge and vast sums of money will be lost forever in the process… but that part won’t show on quarterly earnings.

Investors fucking hate when companies do long term beneficial things like make better products. Couldn’t they have done something more immediately beneficial like layoffs?
TryingToBeReallyCool
I think they missed the plot with their recent announcement. Sure, their games need more time in the oven to eliminate bugs and look pretty, but that isn’t the major factor holding them back anymore, their world design is. The ‘Ubisoft open world’ has felt stale to myself and others for years now. Even between titles the world design just feels far too samey and at this point uninspired as a player and I really don’t feel any drive to pick up any similar titles anymore, even when the premise looks cool. Maybe that’s just me but Iv seen alot of others voice similar opinions so I think it’s a more widespread issue

I haven’t played a Ubisoft game in like 10 years

When you’re creatively bankrupt why bother.
Trash studio making trash games.
I do not understand how anyone swoons over any Ubi game. They had an OK game here and there, but it’s always been a pretty generic trash studio.

Wild that this is how public companies work. Doing the work your company is supposedly for (in this case, making and publishing games) can TANK YOUR STOCK PRICE!?

More like burning cash to spread the “Message” and filling quotas 😛 I’d hate to be the one guy there that actually does work.

The best case scenario is Ubisoft goes under and sells off its IPs to studios that are actually competent

If it did not consistently keep making slop literally nobody wants to play maybe they would make some money?
