In my last post, I was still running just a Mac Mini M1 in the van unbeatable for efficiency, and I still rely on it for Xcode builds. But I’ve finally put together a proper workstation, and it's a massive step forward!
Current Setup:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX3D on a Minisforum BD790i X3D
- GPU: Undervolted RTX 3070, capped at 70% TDP (~150W in use)
- RAM: Single 16GB stick at 4800MHz (upgrade planned)
- Main Monitor: Old Dell 27" 4K 60Hz still going strong
- Secondary Monitor: Uperfect 3K OLED 120Hz, portrait mode on the right perfect for code, logs, or docs and editing
- Peripherals: Logitech MX Keys + MX Master mouse
- PSU: Temporary, inefficient 700w PSU for now HDPLEX DC-ATX on the way
- Power Source: 24V battery bank (setup in progress to run fully DC)
Performance & Efficiency:
- The CPU is surprisingly efficient averaging 44W even during Unity C# compiles.
- GPU is capped and tuned but handles everything I throw at it.
- Once the HDPLEX arrives, I’ll eliminate AC conversion losses and power the whole setup straight from my van’s 24V battery bank.
- Also planning to swap the current oversized case the tiny ITX board looks ridiculous in there.
Will post another update soon with final power draw numbers and tidier cable management once everything is DC-powered. Even as-is, this setup absolutely crushes the old Mac Mini, and it's snappier than my former 5950X desktop from back when I lived in an apartment.

I looked at your post history and I’m super jealous.
