Just finished Edgerunners and wanna say that it’s fucking insane that V actually manages to kill this fucking thing

V is actually built different and doesn’t go around screaming about it, they just get shit done. Everyone in Edgerunners was kinda dumb asl, but I still enjoyed it.

V is basically superhuman thanks to the relic. Helps to stave off cyberpsychosis when you have two minds to shoulder the burden.

Honestly, I find it more impressive that Panam/Weyland/Takemura helped take down Smasher, despite having nowhere near as much cyberware as V. In a way, that kinda makes them more legends in my mind than V, similar to how Blackhand was able to take down Smasher without using cyberware (or the Relic to prevent Cyberpsychosis) as a crutch.

Lol I think the funniest thing is how people act like Smasher isn’t that powerful compared to someone like Morgan Blackhand and so V defeating Smasher isn’t all that impressive to start with considering there are characters who could make short work of him already.

Seeing fans trash V as being some unskilled merc compared to the legends that existed before them is always funny to see. I always like to think that my V is the biggest baddest merc to ever walk when I finish the game and I think the devs wanted you to feel that way as well. But then you get all those people who say “V could never have done anything without X, Y or Z” or the usual arguments of “Morgan Blackhand did everything with basically zero cyberware so V is nothing compared to him” lol.

    “A rudimentary borg.”

    – V (referring to Smasher)

I don’t get why Smasher is considered so tough… Wouldn’t one high caliber round to the head take him down? I mean the most vulnerable and important part of him is completely exposed.

  7. TwoToneBalone

That’s part of why I think the V vs David arguments are silly.

  8. KilgoreT

Yeah, but even after several times through the game, it still takes me multiple restarts to kill Adam fucking Smasher.

  9. Taodragons

No one is more surprised than Smasher lol

That’s one of the really dumb mistakes the game makes. Smasher should not have been in the game as a boss, it makes no sense. End it with Oda and be done. Or better yet end it with zombie Jackie resurrected somehow, I’ve always wanted to see him stfu for once. No chance a random like V even with some corrupted tech could hang against AS for even a few seconds. And David with basically a Gundam mobile suit gets pwned?! Oh well, I guess it’s just a braindance anyway.

Actually it is quite easy if you play a lot.

what the indomitable human spirit does to a uncaring hunk of machine

  13. OGCycloPhile

Adam was my hero at the end of Edgerunners

Probably the most immersion breaking part of the game for me. In the ttrpg, Smasher showing up is considered a game over. He’s literally a one man army, that’s why Arasaka lets him get away with whatever he wants.

I have to assume V killing smasher is non canon

(It’s canon as in we do it in the game but I wouldn’t be shocked if he survived or it was just wiped and he was in the next game.)

I’m sure it’s been said, but on the tabletop that all this is based on, Smasher is the equivalent of “rocks fall and everyone dies”.

He is a story ender. A walking TPK.

He’s what you send when your players think they can smuggle a bomb into Arasaka HQ.

V is some other kind of monster to handle Smasher.

  17. Ham_Fighter

I legit beat Smasher’s ass with flaming Gorilla arms and few thermal grenades. No Berserker or Sandi just threw hands. I honestly thought Oda was harder.

  18. OblivionArts

To blow your mind even more, morgan blackhand can beat him without any cyberware

  19. HeavensHellFire

I still think it’s dumb as shit V beats him.

Dude is 23 and just weeks ago was a low level merc of no renown who got man handled by Dex’s bodyguard and an average Millitech goon.

Now suddenly while dying and having just suffered a relic attack that left them unconscious, they can not only storm Arasaka but take out Night City’s boogeyman.

It’s an issue most games have but V gets way too strong way too fast.
