A Nintendo spokesperson told Eurogamer “AI-generated images were not used in the development of Mario Kart World,”. Seems this is just a funny art style or interesting choice by an artist.

I tend to trust Nintendo based on the quality standards they have been delivering to the world for the past decades 🙂

AI is dangerous for many reasons, but it’s really damaging people’s ability to critically judge art as it is.

Those pictures look absolutely fine tbh and in style with the game. Especially I can’t understand the critique with the car as the normal traffic cars do look like that in the game.

Oof. Yeah those look like AI.

I’m not sure I believe this spokesperson.

If the images are replaced once the game is released, we’ll know it was AI. If they’re still there, it probably isn’t.

Mario Kart has had weird billboards since forever, nothing out of the ordinary really.

Some people just love to hate on Nintendo despite fantastic preorder sales and a 15+ Million forecast for Switch 2 in its first year

We are already past the point where people start accusing artists of using AI because their art looks fake.

Idk that really seems like AI. If it was a human, they broke some pretty basic rules like light sources and perspective.

Devil’s advocate though, as the article said it may have just been a placeholder pre release

Are we really looking at kooky building and car designs and immediately screaming “AI” now?

While I couldn’t care if Nintendo used AI to generate some random billboard, none of these examples look like AI to me

My favorite thing since the onset of AI is people screaming about its use and saying everything is made with AI now lol.

The bridge one does look weird.. Just the kind of image I don’t think an artist looks at and is like “Yeh that’s right” but, it’s mostly just that far flag. It’s shape doesn’t seem right in anyway, it doesn’t look like a flag waving in the wind, it doesn’t match its counterpart, it just looks wrong.

The car looks fine though. Just a cartoonish painting of a car, something straight out of the Incredibles.

However, this is Nintendo.. Like I just have 0 goodwill left for them so, if someone accuses them of AI art? I’d believe it. And how does this spokesperson even know if AI was used or not? Unless there’s been a genuine ‘investigation’ where they seek out the artists project file to make sure it all adds up (And again, very little good will left with Nintendo which is why I just doubt happened), it very well could be.

Scary world we live in for artists.

This so funny apparently a cartoony looking car with weird proportions on an in game billboard is ‘evidence’. Meanwhile you have a giant anthropomorphic turtle with spikes on its shell driving a gokart that defies the laws of physics and that’s totally normal and fine – but cars in this same fictional universe simply must be proportioned correctly for some reason…

Look at this car emoji 🚙, literally the same cartoony style with the height and windows being exaggerated.
