Guess this means they’re making their own remaster/classic version.

inb4 everyone comes and says its because the modders used hacked code. They aren’t using hacked code.

Their mod needs asset from csgo to run. Their download included these files which was thought to be fine. Valve said its not okay to distribute those files off of the steam platform without a license. They also dont give out a license for csgo because it is unsupported.

They were told if they want to release this mod they need to build it on sourceSDK2013 or port it into CS2, both of which are as likely as Valve giving them a csgo license.

The classic offensive website has a good rundown of events with screen shots of messages from valve.

so the mod team reverse engineered features from Source they were legally not allowed to, and then ignored warnings from Valve and pressed on.

    yeah, no empathy here.

Got no dog in this fight, but is a little fucked up they can do this after 8 years of being aware of the mod. Gotta be some kind of statute of limitations for this shit.

Like either stop it right when you find out, otherwise shut the fuck up or purchase the mod. But, private company, tons of power, Im sure theyll come out on top.

Valve exists because of mods… they literally made a ‘mod’ of Quake back in the day that became a smash success. Then all the other games they bought. I hope people realize valve isn’t as special as you think they are and Steam is a DRM monopoly to print money.

Wild. Valve only moves on something like this if their band is forced.

Something must really be amiss if Valve did that. It bears reading

After *almost* 9 years of development, hopefully the fuck-up was worth the weight.

They should just leak it, copyrights are a scam.

Valve defense force in full effect as expected, what a fuckin bootlickers losers if this was done by any other company the comments would be very very different regardless if the dev were in the right or not

  16. Hmm. The article presents one side of the story but doesn’t mention reaching out to Valve for comment.

If you’re going to spend 8 years working on a game, just make your own game.

I’ll never understand why people put so much effort into remaking/remastering a game they don’t own. Use what’s good about the game, improve on it and make something you can profit on and sell.

If your project is as fun as the original, you’ll instantly get a huge fanbase. But if all you do is remake oblivion inside of skyrim, you’ll just end up getting taken down after wasting years of your life. (would bet my life Bethesda takes down skyblivion and sends legal teams after them the day of release)

It’s happened hundreds of times, if you’re that talented make something you own, instead of copying what doesn’t belong to you.
