Capcom has a long history of facing off against other companies like Marvel, SNK and Bandai Namco, but they’ve officially never squared off against Sega in a fighting game before.

That’s what the Sega vs. Capcom fan project has been setting out to do for years now, and there’s a new playable beta for the game that adds more characters to the roster.

After releasing the Sega vs. Capcom beta with online play and new features earlier this year, the creator MadXRuler has released the version 2.75 demo of his passion project for fans to try out.

Now, Rival Schools’ Batsu and Streets of Rage’s Axel Stone have been added to the playable cast after being teased for some time now.

They join the likes of Street Fighter’s Ryu, Mega Man X, Sonic the Hedgehog and Virtua Fighter’s Akira Yuki as selectable fighters in the current version of the game.

Plus, there’s a new hidden boss teased as well to find.

There’s still more planned characters hopefully on the way with slots for Morrigan, Linn Kurosawa, Vyse and Sakura though they are not ready yet.

Sega vs. Capcom was first teased all the way back in 2021, and the project has made slow and steady progress since then.

Multiple stages, gameplay enhancements, character voices, new music and more have all been brought to the fan game over the years, and there’s still hopefully more to come.
