Fatal Fury is back after 26 years with City of the Wolves, and we’ve been very curious to see how the game would perform now that it’s been released.
Despite the massive marketing campaign backing the game, however, it doesn’t appear that the hungry wolves are setting the world on fire (in the West at least).
Sony recently revealed their PlayStation top downloaded games for the month of April 2025.
Among the top 20 titles on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, Fatal Fury was nowhere to be found.
We’re not sure if City of the Wolves’ pre-orders would be included here, but either way, it’s a bit disheartening to see it completely absent from the lists.
Fatal Fury did only have a week or so on the market to be a part of this, but the launch window is generally where a bulk of a game’s sales are made.
There were some big new releases that SNK had to compete with that did chart quite high including The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered and Clair Obscure: Expedition 33, so it appears the new fighting game didn’t have enough of a push to fully compete with them.
We did still see one fighting game franchise chart across multiple spots for the previous month, however, with NetherRealm Studios’ games continuing to sell quite well.

Mortal Kombat 1 came in at 18th in North America and 20th in Europe, and interestingly, Mortal Kombat 11 actually beat out its successor in the EU by one spot.
These numbers were likely bolstered by the PlayStation Big Games Big Deals sale that’s set to end tomorrow with Mortal Kombat X also charting at 6th for the PS4 in April.
We previously looked at Fatal Fury’s Steam player count where things didn’t appear much better.
City of the Wolves failed to eclipse The King of Fighters 15’s peak player count at launch despite Fatal Fury’s beta user record beating it before.
And it didn’t even come close to matching other big releases like Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8.
It appears as though no matter how many WrestleMania promotions or Cristiano Ronaldo tweets they do, Fatal Fury may remain a more niche title in an already niche genre.
There is also the $2.5 million prize pool on the line for the SNK World Championship this year, but even that is going to mostly appeal to the most hardcore players who were already looking at the game anyway.
We’ll have to wait and see what SNK says about Fatal Fury’s overall sales, but it looks like the numbers may be softer than what the developers were hoping for.
