Kind of funny but yesterday i was trying to fix some corrupted UWP packages in my windows install and in that process it auto downloaded Skype again, i guess it will finally be the last time i uninstall it.
One of the OG video connecting platforms. It honestly was good back then and just made sense. COVID and Zoom put the final nail in the coffin tho.

The well-regarded *Magic: the Gathering* podcast, *Limited Resources,* had the host doing a solo episode this week because (among other reasons) he hadn’t replaced Skype in his recording software suite.

Zoom would never have been a thing if Microsoft has just kept Skype lightweight & phenomenally compatible.
Their bundling “strategy” seems to have been, “we’ve got this communications platform that everybody uses because it’s easy, free and ubiquitous! So we should make it complicated, crash-prone, integrated with 12 other tools that have no business being integrated with a communications platform, and sealed behind multiple and incompatible versions of the service.”

It was a sad day when Microsoft announced it bought Skype. Pretty much everyone I knew using Skype moved elsewhere soon after that…
