Sega not revealing timeline just yet
Despite studio Ryu Ga Gotoku’s (Yakuza / Like A Dragon) involvement in the new Virtua Fighter game, it’s going to take place in the same world as the prior games in the franchise, according to the producer, Riichirou Yamada.
“I think it’s important to follow up on the world of Virtua Fighter we’ve known up until now, so yes it’s the same world as the older Virtua Fighter games,” Yamada said.
“Also, we’re planning to make it so that by playing the new Virtua Fighter you’ll find out things about the previous games that weren’t necessarily apparent in them on their own,” he added.
In regards to when in the universe the next Virtua Fighter takes place, Yamada couldn’t reveal that information at this time. “As for the timeline, we’re going to keep that a secret for now,” he said.
Circling back to the teaser for the initial footage, Sega was asked if it takes place in Japan, or another location. “That’s not Japan, it’s somewhere else,” Yamada stated.
Next, Famitsu asked if ring outs are returning to the franchise in the latest entry.
“I personally like ring outs, so I don’t think ring outs would be removed. Stages that have ring outs, stages that don’t, stages where certain conditions can lead to ring outs… That’s my vision. However, if the battle situation can change, then there might be some different cases. So in the teaser trailer, we tried to show that,” Yamada noted.
Closing this out, Famitsu asked if there could be battles that aren’t in the traditional 1v1 format that the series is so well known for.
“I’ll leave that up to your imagination,” Yamada concluded.
