My GPU is aging, so I decided to delve backwards a little bit because I have a hard time running newer games.
I decided to get FC4 after finishing 3, and just… WOW.
The lower Himalayas are such a beautiful and inspired setting for a game. I’m absolutely baffled that this one is so rarely discussed.
Easily my favorite Far Cry game by far.

Ubisoft games imo hold up really well. They always get the open world and the beauty of it right
Over 10 years ago?? I honestly still think of it as a fairly new game lol
Great environment. Mid story.
yeah after 1h of gameplay i did uninstall, crafting bullshit thru me off
Ah the classic “wow such graphics” screenshot. Stare directly at the sun.
ubisoft always have great graphic engines i am glad they did not switch to UE 5 yet
This isn’t a compliment to Farcry 4 as much as it is a criticism of how little graphics have evolved since.
lol nobody liked this game when it came out
Looks better than Halo Infinite.
Overall looks good, but looks dated as hell.
Poor soft-shadows on the gun and low resolution texture work on the gun, poorly lit backdrop with, again, no soft-shadows or brightness control over values. Color-wise looks drab and desaturated.
Like, yes i get the point, but this screenshot is most definitely not it.
But you know, ray tracing is required now so fuck this “old” tech, right?! /s
I hate that new games are requiring RT when games can look this good without it.
HOLY SHIT 10 years?
you notice it aged quite a bit when you are actually playing it. Lot of shortcommings but ‘fake it till you make it’ definitely applies for screenshots.
It will be fun when FC5 will be 10 years old and still looking very, very decently
It’s a wildly underrated game.
Can people stop acting like the 2010’s were the 90’s. Plenty of games from that era have good graphics and we’ve only had diminishing returns since
it was such a deep world, I loved it too. Also the gladiator style battle pit lol. 5 felt like a cheap version of 4 set in Montana as I recall. Never finished it.
Oh yay another one of these kinds of posts.
BLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM
It’s my best Far Cry, by far.
Namaste, right with you; had the most fun with it by far too. The co-op was such a blast. I overall liked the vibe the best too and the Shangri-La sequences were such a treat. Hivemind goes on and on about 5 and while it may have been technically better in some of its design and graphics the heart, soul, and art were gone.
UE5 is a huge step backwards… Ease of use is high, but the end product is compromised.
Screen space reflections and nanite are *terrifying* at times. (Spinning the camera around and seeing a giant sword cast across the ocean is the distance)
Far Cry 4 looks awesome, plays awesome and has a really cool map, I just can’t play it again because Amita and Sabal, Golden Path, absolutely suck. Would have been a much better game if you can properly side with Pagan Min.
2015 is fairly recent in terms of graphics
Games graphics peaked around 2015-2016, and since then, almost everything is kind of on the same level, or, sometimes, somehow, looking worse than games from 10 years ago (but requiring more and more expensive hardware).
There is barely a dozen new games you can look at and say “oh yeah, no way the PS4 or Xbox One could handle this”, when those consoles where handling things like Battlefield 1, The Last of Us 2, RDR2, Horizon Zero Dawn, Star Wars Battlefront, etc.
Its weird to me that Witcher 3 came out 10 years ago. I was 31. Fml where does the time go?
still a lot better than modern shovelware
And it sure shows.
I loved this Far Cry, but 5 is my favorite!
Pagan Min is one of my favorite antagonists.
