I remember seeing this for the first time in the high school library computer room and thinking it looked awesome. Not even the slightest curiosity about what possible purpose the display would serve.

They didn’t realize that a lot of future console designs were going to be black and boxy so they could slide into the empty space in a tv tv cabinet and be all incognito.

Wow memory unlocked. Iirc they had some kinda crazy designs for the rumoured psx console too.

Looks better than the radiator we eventually got

Dude, the ideas/concepts people came up with in the 90s/early 2000s for consoles were bonkers. It’s a great rabbit hole to go down.
Deimos_Aeternum
I remember this. We all knew it would never look like this.

I’ll grant that it’s a very 1997 design. I like the little pop-up screen

I remember reading this back when I was a whippersnapper. There were three or four designs in the article.Â

Huh. Swear I’ve seen this before somewhere..
Now that I’m really looking at it, it appears more like a portable CD player than a games console, but I love that the design fits well for the era it was imagined in –
silver casing with sleek lines, fancy looking blue lcd screen, elegant understated logos.. Very 1997! 🙂
pcenginegaiden
Looks a bit like a reverse wonder mega M1 with a screen.

Just missed it by a hair.
Eh, it’s not an unreasonable guess.
Looks straight out of TNG era Star Trek.
