People will dump on the Ouya, but I had a blast playing with it. I mostly used it as an emulator box but it worked well and lasted quite awhile.

Lol. I bought one of those. I think I played on it a handful of times, then it gathered dust behind my TV until the day I chucked it.

It had one good game – towerfall
Other than that it was for emulators playing boring old games
The Xbox media center app was OK… But it wasn’t powerful enough to play new codecs like h.265 and had network issues
Waste of money – taught me to never buy anything from Kickstarter again

This just made me old because I remember when these things were coming out and now they’re “Forgotten relics.”
*and we still haven’t had another Elder Scrolls game*

LOL when I saw it, I was like “OUYA! that did exist”

I still have my OUYA too – it’s been collecting dust for years. Back in the day, I even released a game for it: Krakoid Special Edition – there’s a gameplay video on YouTube.
It had potential, but nowadays it’s nothing more than a nostalgic piece of obsolete hardware.

12 years is long forgotten?
Truth be told I’ve never heard of it
I remember wanting this but the reviews definitely changed my mind on it.

Honestly I had high hopes for this. I kind of really thought this and the ONlive consoles were going to be big. I almost purchased one of these but held off for reviews.

I drove 2 hours to pick one of these up back in the day, and sold it a week later.

For some reason my father decided to buy that on release day thinking it was awesome.
Spoiler: Couldn’t even use it as a door wetch due to how light it was.
This reminds me of Rerez’s video on Youtube. Such a weird console…

Wait this was real?! I thought it was a nightmare I had!

I mean, it was basically a docked Switch before the Switch was a thing. The concept made sense…make an affordable console based on Linux/Android. But 1) the power wasn’t there in 2012 and 2) it was missing a hybrid element like Switch.

If it’s still up, Crowbcat has a great video about the Ouya on YouTube.

The Ouya needed two things to not fail as it did:
* It needed people to actually understand the claims. What I saw of the original messaging was pretty clear about what it was, but there were a lot of people who somehow did not understand that this cheap little box was not going to be competing against the major consoles in power. And of course that led to the backlash “debunking” the Ouya itself, when they should have been debunking people who missed the point.
* It needed to not suck. All it needed to do was be a mid-range phone processor with an HDMI port and a good controller and a decent software pipeline to publish on it. The controller was truly awful, as was the software pipeline… so of course there wasn’t much to do with the thing. And with the controller being so bad, not even modding was worth it.
