I think there is something about the cost here that increases popularity. I wouldn’t have purchased at 70$ but I did for 50$.
Interesting to see how many others are in the same boat and how much more this game made as a result of having a lower price.

I’d be interested to know its development budget and to see how it ends up stacking up to that over time.

Can’t wait to play this game but the constant posts dickriding are getting tiresome, I’m afraid the pendulum will swing the other way and it will earn a reputation as “overrated” in the future

A lot of good double AA games get over looked.
mrwobblez
I would have happily paid $80.
ClacksInTheSky
The idea that the costs need to go up it’s bullshit.
Yeah, in the 90s and 00s games were £50/£60 and inflation means they would be around £200 in today’s money.
You know what else has inflated? Install base. Number of gamers, consoles and PCs.
Games sell way more and make way more than they used to do. Videogames as an industry absolutely gulfs Hollywood.
So no, fuck that, games DON’T need to get more expensive.

But I was crazy for saying this yesterday lmfao.

I shit you not I literally said out loud this morning “Wow looks good, but I’ll probably wait for a sale…..oh”.
Sambo_the_Rambo
I’m still going to wait for a sale before I get it.

I paid 31 bucks with regional pricing and I feel like I must pay more.

Wasn’t Minecraft like $15? Whoever said cost = quality?
Also just to note for most of the higher things in life cost does equal quality. Videogames are an entry level affordable hobby even at a ridiculous $80 a game. (Most people spend hundreds on micros now)

While we’re here can we bin the *x per hour* metric too

I just bought the game. It looks so freaking good!!

Posts like this are going to be cringe when the studio releases their next game and its full price
TATER_SALAD_HOOVER
In defense the game is shorter than a lot of current games, that’s why it was probably cheaper.

I started playing a game on Reddit where whenever I see a post complaining about monetization, I look at their profile to see what games they play while they fight the scourge of monetization. It has always been the following, so far:
1. Pokemon
2. Magic the Gathering
3. Gacha games (or some equally 1 dimensional monetized anime game)
4. Mmorpgs
5. Madden/FIFA/NBA
6. Call of Duty

This game fucking bangs. I can’t believe how good it is

Publishers seem blind to the fact they could make more money selling at $50 through volume, why try to sell every game for $70 and sell 2-5 million copies, when they could try selling at $50 and get 7-10 million copies sold, many players are put off of $70-$80 games and wait for a sale why not try to maximize copies sold with a lower entry price.

I just finished it and god damn this is easily one of my favorite game, up there with Sekiro and Hi-Fi rush. Planning to 100% it next

The point of MS making first-party games 80 is to push gamepass. Nearly all are day-one releases on Gamepass. The others will follow suit because the times dictate it.
Also remember that games have historically always been around 70-80 bucks. It wasn’t until the 2000’s that it changed

$50 games are the new $30 games. I.e , “not quite AAA” tier price.
Skankbart52
Redfall from Microsoft was priced at $70. The audacity to demand such a premium price for such pure garbage when that recent gem only goes for $50, btw, Baldur’s Gate 3 was also only $60 and was infinitely better than Redfall.
If you don’t want $80 industry – collapse their release date sales in favor of those who do not get greedy while offering good games at a better price. You can always buy that $80 slop when it’s 50% off in a few months and in a better state.

Unfortunately, I don’t think a CFO cares.
Let’s say the game sold 1mil units @ $50 per unit. That’s 50mil in gross revenue.
@ $80 per unit they can sell 475,000 less units for the same gross revenue.
Now after this point. They put the game on sale for 50% and those other 325,000 gamers (delta in the example above) decide the barrier of entry is low enough for them to scoop the game. That’s another 8.125M in revenue.
TL:DR they can sell wayyy less units at $80 and remain on par for revenue and still have an untapped market to sell again when this discounts roll out.
Unfortunate for us who want to play while the game is hyped and fresh but with Microsoft announcing Xbox games at $80 this $50 masterpiece is simply an outlier
drial8012
At this point if you launch at $80, I just assume you’re part of a company that has to extract as much money as possible from the market so I won’t be purchasing it because then that mentality also is associated with not creating the best games.
