I’m sure that will help with their sagging sales…

  2. GenePoolFilter

This must be the winning I was promised back in 2016.

  3. IRSquirl

That’s cool, I can wait 1 year for a game to not sell forcing them to lower the price to a reasonable amount.

Remember when consoles went down in price 5 years after launch? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

  5. BadDogSaysMeow

Fear not, the rise in price will result in better quality of the games.

    Oh wait, it won’t.

  6. Canofsad

For the $80 games price tag, that is an assumption by IGN that’s what Xbox’s first party games will be.

Edit: IGN just sucks ass at wording it is being set as the “recommended” price for retailers

Welp, there goes any chance I’ll upgrade from my Series S.

So for just 100 bucks more you can get a PS5 Pro, why would anyone buy an Xbox at this point? And I say that as a Series X owner.

Also, I was thinking about trading my SX in, I wonder if trade in prices will move up to match?

  9. jussa-bug

Jesus those are some price hikes. Really glad I decided to swap my PS5 out for a PS5 Pro a few weeks ago before all the economic pain really started setting in.

  10. orltragic

Those are HUGE increases. $400 for a Series S is fucking laughable.

Nintendo was just the beginning and I’m afraid we all knew this

Time to Switch 2 a cheaper hobby.

I love how orange clown fucked up Americans and now the whole world has to pay for it!

    Fuck that gnome!

  14. FlashPost01

Im not surprised… Ghost of Yotei for PS at £69.99 seems reasonable now 😅 they better stick to that

Love how expensive everything is getting, not only basic needs like food and rent/mortage, but hobbies too. But wait, at least a salary increase is due, a whole 3.5%, I am sure that will cover everything.

  16. Amazing, in less than 5 years, the games go from 60 to 80 dollars.

    What the actual fuck.

  17. MadMax0526

Raising console prices but have no console exclusives? When most of their titles are already on PC?
That’s a bold strategy cotton. Let’s see if it works out for them.

Meanwhile me on Steam: if it’s not discounted I ain’t buying lol

  19. Shaggy_AF

Well, suppose this is my final xbox before I finally shift to PC.

  20. Unequallmpala45

This is what’s driving me to steam and pc gaming, sure I could pay $80 or I could simply wait and not

Man, stuff like this really makes me feel like gaming is slowly slipping away from people who actually grew up with it. I’ve had my Series X since launch and it’s been great, but if I didn’t already have one, there’s no way I’d justify buying it now with these prices going up. I remember when you could grab a new console for like $300 and it came bundled with a game or two. Now you’re spending way more just for the base system, and everything else—extra controllers, online access, even storage—is marked up too. It just feels like they’re squeezing every last cent out of people, and it’s kinda exhausting.

It’s frustrating because gaming has always been my escape. After work, I’d hop on with a couple of friends and just forget about the world for a bit. But with these rising costs, it’s like they’re slowly turning a fun hobby into a luxury. And I get it—business is business—but man, it’s hard not to feel a little burned. Anyone else remember the Xbox 360 days when things just felt… simpler? Do you think we’re gonna hit a point where average gamers just tap out and stop keeping up?

Raising prices will help them get more people to subscribe to game pass which is the long run goal anyways.

  23. Upper_Caramel_6501

Yo ho yo ho a pirates life for me

  24. schuey_08

As the trade war takes hold, games are gonna be the last things we worry about with price increases. It’s going to get very bad as long as these global tariffs are being imposed by the U.S.

  25. CertifiedNutjob

Raising game prices mid-generation is certainly a play.

$80 for PS6/NextXbox games was a given, of course, but I didn’t think anyone would make a move in the middle of the console generation…

  26. ISmokeyTheBear

    Welp. Time to join r/patientgamers

  27. NoBullet

Seeing all the tech companies coddle Trump and now backfiring on them is sadly hilarious.

  28. Opening_Proof_1365

I mean all this will do is cause me to buy less impulse buy games. I only bought random games because they were affordable. When the price went up to $70 I got a little more hesitant. Now at $80 I’ll only be buying games I know I’ll enjoy. I wont be “experimenting” with games anymore.

Especially considering $80 wont give us the full game, they’ll still have season passes and crap you have to buy, and it won’t cause the quality to increase. With the growing rise of AAA games launching in nearly unplayable states and just having to wait for patches. This is just more reason for people not to buy the game at launch. 9 times out of 10 by the time they actually fix the games with patches it’s been on sale 10 times, so you feel silly having paid full price.

  29. dreamweaver7x

More tariff effects. The Xbox and its games are all made in China.

The issue is the global price increase even outside of the US meaning the rest of the world is subsidizing the Trump Tax for the US.

Not really surprising since Microsoft doesn’t want to anger Trump.

  30. ICPosse8

Anyone who voted for Trump has him to thank for this

  31. ninjastk

GTA 6 being 100 is now extremely likely

  32. HuskerDerp

Well, you all complain anytime politics is brought up iN YouR ViDEo GAmeS so this is what you get for shoving the topic under the rug. Enjoy!!! 🙂

  33. aquatrez

Don’t worry, everyone. I’m sure once the tariffs are repealed, they’ll lower all these prices right back down to where they were before! I definitely trust corporations to have the best interests of consumers in mind!
