It’s a reference to dying light because both studios are from poland and dying light also had a refernces to the mantis blades
There is a mod for the game. Something like Dying Light ungonked. That removes this horrible blade and elongate barrel a little. Now u can use it and not be afraid that everyone is laughing at you. 😀

I know it has been changed with 2.0 but you can still get both of these.

It does. Pistol whips with dying night now cause shock damage. You get the original with a scope attached for wining Wilsons shooting contest.
The original actually doesn’t make sense for me, since i also play Dying Light and wondering “what’s so dying light about this pistol” the new one makes sense with the blade (even tho has no use) and color scheme similar to the first DL’s main antagonist’s faction
I saw somewhere that it was to more closely resemble the default pistol v brings out in cut scenes. Idk how much I belive it cause it doesn’t look like the same pistol and the bayonet isn’t actually functional so it really isn’t needed. (You charge up for Melee bash while moving hit the bash is the same animation so the blade isn’t needed)

The new Dying Night is dumb looking, but the original was just a Lexington with zero personality.
IMO, V’s pistol should’ve been a Unity to match the cutscenes. It’s weird having an auto pistol as your character’s go-to.
I didn’t play before 2.0 so I didn’t even know these used to be the same fun, but yeah I prefer the first one (although I hate that it has a built-in scope, it’s the only reason I don’t stick with it as my “canonical” weapon)

I think Wilson was a lost opportunity to develop a cool weapon upgrade story…like, get involved in projects with Wilson as he sends you out to gather specs for different weapons and mods from different corporations and factions like Militech, Arasaka, NCPD and MaxTac for example…
In the end, you get to build this iconic weapon that is a little bit of everything…meaning a silenced, sniping, explosive tech weapon with smart capabilities that you can install 4+ mods on, or any type of mod, like a small gun that can take long scopes and melee weapon mods…
V jabs at Wilson that to get more sales he could “skip the part where he tinkers with them”, so I assumed Wilson thinks he’s some huge gun nut mechanic and fucks with all his weapons. Resulting in some real redneck/crackhead energy guns, ergo the new pistol. Which is no longer “V’s Iconic Pistol”, which is fine because they only use the Liberty in every cutscene anyways.

I think the first one was reintroduced with PL, one of the findable iconics knocking about somewhere. Couldn’t tell you where, or even if Im right – I know that the design or at least something similar is available ingame

Personally I hated the original design but I’m also not a big supporter of genocidal countries, so that’s my issue with it.
