To be 💯 I love Dragon's Dogma and am biased. I put over 600 hrs across two playthroughs on DD1/DA & about 300 hrs into the platinum for DD2.

The Dark Arisen expansion is arguably one of the best dungeon crawlers ever made & it's a shame we get no modern version in the DD2 engine. Kinda like how we got no modern Undead Nightmare in RDR2.

The Shadow of the Colossus-esque battles are some of my favorite of any action RPG. A dedicated dungeon crawl in the updated engine seems like an easy win.

Definitely yes, I had the pleasure to play and finish it two weeks ago and it was a BLAST from start to finish.

Props to the Spynx and the new race to play. Also, Magic Archer was BUSTED.

I do really hope they will be able to release a Dark Arisen-ish DLC for it.

Also a rework of the whole class system.

They had ten years and it was somehow even worse than the first. Special mention to wayfarer and the illusion one, the most unplayable crap I’ve ever seen.

But unfortunately the main dev left, so it’s unlikely to get any better.

I liked a lot of the gameplay from the first game more (such as both daggers and magic bow for magick archer, and more total skills). But the second game does look great, and it would be great to have an expansion akin to bitterblack isle.

Game needs a lot of work to make it as good as DD1 Dark Arisen, its a shame because it has a lot of potential and looks to be abandoned by the developers.

The first thing they need to do is fix the performance.

  6. Glodraph

Dragon dogma 2 should get fixed. Cpu performance and general performance is still dogshit.

Can y’all help me get into it? I’d never played the original and wanted to love this but I’m just not getting hooked. I’ve played a few hours but I can’t get into it, what am I missing?

  8. ThirdFlip

Dark Arisen made me feel challenged by the game, to take the time to prepare and properly equip myself for the encounters (unless was I playing the bow class).

  9. HolySymboly

Dragons dogma was a disappointment at its best. Too many performance issues and bugs.

As someone who stumbled over DD late when the expansion was already released, I still think I haven’t got a comparable experience since and was absolutely thrilled when DD2 was released.
However, DD2 is a huge step backwards in many aspects from enemy variety over characters classes to possible builds. The game should have picked up the classes/monsters of the old game and expand/fix the kits like they do with the Monster Hunter franchise, instead of throwing everything out for the sake of doing something new just to end up with less of everything.

So yes, they should do an expansion to fix the problems, but there would be so much work, time and money required to do so that I really doubt it happening.

Can’t wait to try this game when it hits $15

I liked the second game, but holy shit did it feel like a tech demo rather than a game.

  13. code_isLife

Man I had such high hopes for that game. DD1 is constantly on sale for like 5 dollars and is absolutely still worth it even with the sequel

  14. Galagamus

To be honest DD2 was just extremely mediocre.

If they give us a mega dungeon à la BBI then they better use the climbing mechanics for vertical exploration. Dark Arisen had some crazy hidden chests all over the island and with current DD2 mechanics they could have even better exploration.

Didn’t the main creator say this game, completed, was the way he pictured the best experience of dragons dogma? Says to me maybe we won’t get an expansion.

  17. PoopTransplant

The game had so much potential, it needed more story and different enemy types.

  18. ItssBaz

it needs a performance patch before I pay for any dlc unfortunately.

I didn’t have that many performance problems as some other folks but my issue with DD 2 is that it’s just more Dragons Dogma. And I guess that’s what I wanted but at the same time, so much more could be done with this franchise. Some stuff improved and some stuff got actually worse and a lot of QOL improvements that could and should’ve happened (better inventory weight system, stamina usage outside of combat when sprinting etc.) are just absent. I did finish a normal playthrough but couldn’t even bring myself to do the endgame content. It kinda just made me want to go back to Dark Arisen.

I really hope it does get an expansion that makes it shine.

    How about fixing the performance?

Forget expansion, the game cant even run well

  21. Wolf_in_the_Mist

Is this game worth it on consoles?

  22. LayYourGhostToRest

You just reminded me that I bought Dragons Dogma HD a few years ago and never played it.

  23. mwdeuce

They should actually finish the base game, how about that? Another incomplete Crapcom cash grab.

  24. JailbaitEater

Considering how it launched and the time frame it really should have launched as DD2 dark arisen 2.

As it is now, DD1 DA is still the better game in most regards except graphics

  25. Gynthaeres

I just wish I could choose to play after completing the game. That’s all I want. I haven’t touched the game after beating it because I got attached to my pawn and don’t want to ‘reset’ her in NG+, and nor do I want to start a new game with all the effort I put into my base game. (Plus I heard NG+ doesn’t do any difficulty scaling so it’s a cakewalk, not sure if that’s still true or not.)

But a proper expansion that allows this would be wonderful. Pity that nothing’s been announced.

    I miss Dragon’s Dogma Online 😭
