I use them to look around in the level.
Only use I’ve found for it is keeping one on me for when I load into a high round save. The game is pretty unstable when loading in and another save can’t be created till you complete the round, so if you lag out or crash you lose your save and the run is over. So load in, pop a Time out instantly to skip the round, then you’re good to go.

OP has apparently never head of playing online with other players.
It helped with cranked especially CDM, the counter kept going down, during the boss’s Dialouge.

Useful when I was doing the Terminus egg on Cowabunga Cranked but got good enough to where i didn’t use it when I completed it. A Power Keg was all I needed
I’ve seen a few people use it during shattered veil boss later phases to reduce time spent killing the zombie hordes.
I have considered using my stash of them to troll random lobbies by popping them at the start of round 1

Minus the Round Robbin functionality, any use anyone can come up with is literally just them monetizing the ability to pause.
Another use would be actually being able to explore maps without a zombie constantly on your ass but apparently being able to do that is restricted to maps lol Buried and Zetsubou
It works great for the seed challenge on Shattered veil. It stops the round zombies from spawning. It only allows the purple eyed ones. Makes it much easier and much faster. If you plant one seed and start the seed challenge. Then pop the gum just before the round ends and the next one starts. You can do all 4 and almost get to the rat run upgrade station before they all come rushing back.
It’s helpful for certain ee steps too, like trying to do the abomination step on shattered veil and so on. Yes you could train a zombie but you could pop it when the zombie dies to give yourself a few extra minutes.
If it actually worked in bossfights, it would be great for maps like tomb or terminus where the zombies mostly serve to distract and chip you into range for the boss
I used one when they first came out and one in a boss fight haven’t used one since and they weren’t all that imo. I have around 26 of them or so.

I just use it to wrap up a round that’s going on for too long or if I need a break. I remember I used it once and a teammate thought the game glitched out because there weren’t any zombies spawning and he left the game 😂
It’s good to use for the gold armor challenge on The Tomb. So basically it’s good for when you have to focus on a strong enemy and you don’t want zombies getting in the way of that. Idk which boss fights it’s effective for but I know it’s useless for The Shattered Veil boss fight
I’ve been using mine to do the automatic MK2 Raygun step with the abominations. For whatever reason when I try to save a zombie or even a couple while doing that step, the abominations seem to kill the zombies or they just disappear so the next round starts and I get killed.
