New PC for my client, and he is adamant about not using an AIO for the 14900K!

But a stock cooler? That poor little CPU.

  2. Illustrious-Mousse45

He bought the PC just for fun, because it looks good, not for rendering, not for work… So he said the Intel stock fan would look better.

  3. Your customer should have also ordered 12GB of extra braincells.

  4. itsJohnWickkk

Poor motherboard but don’t worry! he will be calling you asking why his PC is crashing.

  5. West_Occasion_9762

He doesn’t want an air cooler either?

specifically asked for the stock cooler?

  6. Zeraora807

customer is an idiot, that cooler is sufficient for an i5 at most, in a well ventilated case.. I’ve already tried this lmao

  7. Noxious89123

Lol, your customer is a moron.

Wants an expensive motherboard with a fancy OLED display, but won’t pay for something better than the stock cooler?

Oh well, let them enjoy i3 performance from their i9 I guess.

  8. Synthetic_Energy

Stock cooler will thermally throttle a cpu at 75 Watts.

So that 14900k is fucked. Your customer sounds like they don’t know what they are on about.

  9. No-Upstairs-7001

You can under clock the shit out of it and enforce all limits

It’ll get hot but day to day still will be fine

  10. warfaucet

Set PL2 to 125 watt and hope for the best I guess.

  11. DanteBrisingr

I mean at that point I would go for a cheaper CPU, you won’t be getting any good performance out of that one, just a waste of money

  12. SkuffetPutevare

He is also adamant about going with Intel in the first place, so..

  13. circle1987

Looks like Tony Stark’s heart piece! Awesome look!

  14. hadarsaar

There are plenty of fantastic air coolers that can handle that CPU

  15. bisforbnaynay

100% fan speed immediately. Someone needs a better cooler.

  16. Granny4TheWin7

    How tho????
The 14900K doesn’t come with any cooler nor does any unlocked intel cpu to my knowledge, you could have at least told him you can add a cheap hyper 212 to it as the cpu doesn’t come with a cooler , anything would be better than that stock cooler.

  17. ImNotMe314

But why the stock cooler and not a beefier tower air cooler?

  18. Unregistered_Davion

Is it a dumb idea, yes.
Does that stock cooler look great esthetically, also yes.

  19. If we ignore what a terrible idea it is for the thermals, I kinda fuck with the design. Form over factor at the expense of making us all cry.

  20. Membedha

Air cooler are as efficient as water cooler. Its juste that the water cooler will keep your CPU at lower temp for a longer time but you will reach the same max temp in the end

  21. iothomas

No one is going to mention that the 14900k doesn’t come with a stock cooler?

Because the stock cooler is not designed to handle that type of thermal loads?

Did you reduce the TDP to around 100 and cut all turbo behaviour?

  22. CommieBorks

the customer is gonna come back asking “why my CPU overheat”

  23. pumz1895

If you are going air cooling at least get an NH-D15, not a stock Intel cooler for that CPU

  24. emirefek

In long sessions AIO does not make that difference from bulky air coolers. Stock one just stupid choice anyway.

  25. RayneYoruka

Don’t worry he’ll return once he can’t play any games!

  26. pagusas

I get that he said he didnt want an AIO, but why did you put that cooler on it? To my knowledge the14900k was never sold with a stock cooler as an option, so you had to pick that out from somewhere right?

  27. I don’t mind having some fancy screen like that but honestly I keep my tower under the desk I never even see it. I think o may place it on top again 🤔

  28. WarpCitizen

He doesn’t want any cooling in general I guess

  29. Photog_DK

    GPU: Firebreathing dragon

    CPU: Lightningbreathing dragon

    Mobo: Frostbreathing dragon

    Cooler: Garden gnome

  30. mad_dog_94

Why the stock cooler though? I get not wanting liquid cooling but at least stick a decent tower cooler on it

Fwiw I have a peerless assassin on my 7900x3d (also open air) and the temps are solid. I am aware that the only thing these builds have in common are the fact that they’re open air systems though

  31. Mike_for_all

I kind of get it, if you had bad experiences with an AIO you’d prefer air cooling.

Still, a stock cooler is pure madness.

  32. ieshaan12

Is there a AMD motherboard that has a display?

  33. artemnet

This is an open frame case? Can you name it?

    No words about cpu cooler.

  34. Erlend05

Not wanting an aio is perfectly fine, but this build would look so awesome with a dark rock pro 4 or something

  35. itsjehmun

Not spending $50 more bucks for a substantially better cooler seems crazy to me. I get not wanting an AIO I don’t like them myself but dang, stock cooler on a build like this is wild. Looks cool tho.

  36. Didn’t i9s come without the stock cooler?

  37. sanij_snj

is that a stock intel cooler…. damn that thing looks sexy…. not that i would use it tho

  38. Sevulturus

Even limiting the speed to 5ghz on my 14700 I was still pinging off the thermal throttling with a 240mm aio using push/pull fans. That’s gonna slow itself hard.

  39. I don’t know if the 14900K or the shitty stock cooler is ther worst thing here.

  40. RockmanVolnutt

    It’s called “the Throttler”

  41. Vimvoord

How much is this guy paying you and how much is it possible to skim the margin to save this client from future disappointment and give him an air cooler which wont kill the cpu in less than 1 day
