This is why nude mods are usually the first to get made after a game releases.

It’s fun seeing these ads when reading through old magazines but a lot of them are really cringy. Definitely of an era.
Draakje
The “Nude raider” mod solved that issue for many people lol.
Adult mod creators will always find a way if possible.

The cringe… it’s too much.

I have a distinct feeling that this ad played a big part in kids getting their comics and zines’ taken away lol

I’m reading through a bunch of my old EGMs and Game Informers and it’s funny to see how aggressively horny they were.
I get that it was their audience but I swear the editors must have had a breast quota by how unnecessary some it it is lol

Back then, games were sold at much higher ‘margins’, and they could focus on niche markets and advertising
Today the cost and time it takes to make a game is so much higher while it’s sold at the same price as 20 years ago, so companies hedge their projects, everything needs to have mass appeal, which makes everything seem a bit bland

Marvel Rivals is basically doing this kind of marketing now and experiencing massive success because of it. It just can’t be as “on-the-nose” as it used to be.

Lara Croft’s Creator hated these ads btw
> She was always designed to look good – people’s psychology is that they like attractive characters on both sexes. What I objected to was the marketing which represented Lara in a way that was nothing like the character. At the time I didn’t like that and it prompted me to want to retain control of characters I created in the future, so that’s why I left.
