I would appreciate it if some kind soul gave a summary of whatever major changes happened in-game as I also just returned to the game after around 18 months.
Also, is it still possible for me to clear the cache rewards to get the free skins if I start today? (it says 40 days left)

Wildcards, alot of new weapons, including 3 bullshit OP weapons, a new BR map, a new ranked game mode, 2 free legendaries and 1 free mystic weapon.

Two years ago, roughly the time when the CBR was meta right? It got nerfed finally. It’s currently an alright SMG. With absurdly good bsa
The current best are the t19, bp50, uss9, Oden, and hvk.
Some notable meta shifters introduced was the type 63, mg42, and tundra.
The mg42 is a very very fast firing lmg, with very easy recoil. It’s easy to use, and will probably always be meta in some way.
The tundra is a dlq but faster and significantly less flinch.
Uss is an SMG that can 3 tap for 30 meters, and 4 tap to 55. Very strong, but it’s getting a slight nerf next season. And will likely continue to be nerfed.
The t19 is the stereotypical easy to use Ar. Decent range, decent mobility, decent ttk, decent fire rate, good all around. It’s getting a nerf next season. The xm4 is a good alternative
The sks got buffed, and the type 63 is essentially a better version but with bullet speed.
Ak117 is getting a br nerf next season
All smgs got buffed, movement, reload, sprint to fire.
We got a new secondary. The machine pistol. A pocket Mac 10. It’s really strong
The peacekeepers mythic irons got changed, and they’re planning to modernize more.
The mk2 got an absurd buff. It’s at 250 Ms ads time. Insane. Another marksman alternative is the Argus shotgun
We got multiple free legendaries and even a free mythic. Through grinding ranked, a log in reward, and the cache system.
We got a few notable scorestreaks. The RC car is back, yay, we got the flamenaught, and the RAPS
Raps are like swarm but grounded, and stupid.
Flamenaught is basically the operator skill on steroids. A good counter is the annihilator. Soon to be buffed.
Scavenger got buffed, it heals you for 50
Wildcards got added. The most viable are perk greed and overkill. Perk greed lets you have an extra red perk, overkill lets you have an extra gun.
And the three tap meta is back.

1. So we have 2 bot invites you get if you’re not in Streamer mode in MP Ranked that ensures a smooth rank up grading to Legendary.
2. We finally have the 4 Wild Card perks:
A. We have Overkill (2 Primary weapons)… As a wild card. You can carry a Shotgun and LMG or carry 2 ARs as you wish.
(In this case I carry 1 SMG or 1 more AR and the 1 anti score streak AR, Man-O-War Thermite ammo to destroy score streaks
B. One wildcard that allows 2 Red Perks. (Example you can have both Lightweight and Tactician perk)
C. One more wild card that allows 2 Tactical Grenades
(2 EMPs and 1 Concussion Grenade)
D. One wildcard (2 Lethal Grenades like 1 Frag grenade, and 1 Molotov cocktail)
3. We have wild cards in BR gameplay there too.
4. The classic M1 Garand finally arrives in the gameplay fold.
