I hope you repasted that card too if you need these steps to keep your card cool.

Function over aesthetics, I like it!

No Hoctua Fans?
Nerfarean
Better than factory
tailslol
nice, i saved a gpu by deshrouding too.
Mabrouk86
Well done. You used the same heat sink, didn’t you? Just installed the fans. I may do it in the future.
LosMechanicos
Agreed, once you go deshroud you can’t really go back, it’s just too good. Only watercooling is still better
VirtualBlack
Sometimes just changing the paste alone can make a big difference, perhaps upgrading the fans wasn’t necessary. But still looks great
EmuIndividual5885
To be honest, thats the kind of a stuff I want to see here on reddit.

I remember doing something like this to an R9 290 card and I even got the adapter to control the fans via the GPU. It worked great on a pretty toasty GPU.
BeerGogglesFTW
Part of me has always hoped a GPU fan of mine would die so I would have a reason to do this. I must have 10 of those fans sitting in a box from cheap 5 packs (and then I upgraded to Max fans, or RGB)
Those fans are definitely quieter, and more efficient than stock GPU fans.
As a compromise I have 2 of these below my GPU using a bracket that screws in like a PCI device. Keeps my GPU fans running lower than they would otherwise.

I don’t like it, I love it!

Made a few of these myself over the years. Always function over form in this household.

I will take the low temperature and higher sustained boosts instead of looks any day.

It’s beautiful

Stop caring what other people like.

Welcome to the ugly-but-great deshroud club, looks good to me!

i always place more of an emphasis on hotspot temps. they tend to be higher than the core itself.
Alfred146
I really like it, looks cool
Ivan_90014
Nice, thats gonna be so quiet too compared to GPU fans.
cemsengul
I just hate that one fan hangs past the heatsink a little.
gwdope
I wish they would make a GPU with a heat sink without fans and just a spot to mount regular PC fans. No shroud or LED or any bullshit. Just a board, a sink and 120 or 140 screw pattern. Want LED barf? buy LED fans. Want stealth? buy black fans.
NG_Tagger
Do what you gotta do. I absolutely applaud what you did there!
I bet it’s also nowhere near as noisy as with the stock setup (if you’ve got it on a curve, at least – hell, probably even without one..).
Stock GPU coolers aren’t what they used to be. Not only are a lot of them (very) loud, during semi-heavy load – but some aren’t really that great at doing their job (cooling), despite apparently working so hard (fast/noisy). You’d think that all these AIBs would put better fans on these high-priced products; but that’s apparently something they are very much willing to skimp on..
Fucking glad I switched to a Noctua Edition GPU. No way I’m going back to anything other than that. It’s night and day, in terms of noise and overall cooling performance, compared to stock/generic GPU cooling from most AIBs (if not all), when it comes to air cooling.

I love jank shit like this. Very punk.

I ran my 3080 like this mining 24/7, I was really disappointed when I put a waterblock on it because it was already at peak performance, a de shroud mod is a redneck waterblock

We do this in the workshop all the time when parts are not available on older cards. One of those rare moments when the “hack” method is actually better than doing the job “right”.
To be honest, this is the kind of stuff I love seeing on Reddit.
blueangel1953
Tried that with my reference model RX 580 8GB, didn’t work lol. It’s a blower style so the heatsink is so small it does not work, thing is a damn leaf blower but a solid backup now.

Bruh if you need to dissect your card so it doesn’t hit 100 degrees, think it might be time to lay her to rest
Edit: I misread. But still, my card runs at like 56 degrees with an undervolt, no dissection required
How do you power it ??
I love it!
Removing the plastic shroud allows the heat to disspitate more quickly too
Nahhh, you gotta get the server grade fans on it
