Disclaimer: I have a pre-built.
So basically I needed to remove my gpu to install an m2 drive but as soon as I removed it I heard this plastic piece fell out, I assumed it was from the gpu but I could be wrong, could be the motherboard too I guess, it isn’t broken in any way I can notice, my first guess was maybe an anti sag thing for the gpu? Maybe some cable management thing? I need your help.

Looks like a pcie latch to me. Means now your gpu can probably fall out at any time
Broke off mine a few days ago, its the thing that holds it so u cant pull it out, holds it in the pcie slot
Its the latch that prevents your GPU from being easily pulled away from the PCIE slot on the motherboard. Its not the end of the world. As long as your PC is stationary you’ve nothing to panic about. If your worried about it just use a cheap anti sag support brace to make sure its supported and level.
Bro, that’s the mounting clip. Wtf how it came out ?
from the first pic i can assure you its a little pet for your pc
That broke off on my old motherboard too. They’re pretty fragile.
WTF, Reddit is monitoring me and always shows me shit that is so coincidentally relevant to my own life it’s actually kinda scary. Strangely mine just fell out too a few hours ago, was just removing my old card to put in the new 5060ti and it just came off, but don’t worry, it’s not the end of the world, just make sure the GPU is seated properly in the slot and be careful it doesn’t move around too much from now on
you can take your gpu out and snap it back into place at the end of the pcie slot, or you can just let it go, not a big deal
At first glance it looked like the agility pet the giant squirrel in osrs lmao
GPU PCIE Clip/Hatch. Mine broke last week too when I was doing maintenance lol
Yeah that’s the retaining clip off the PCIe slot. I managed to do that on my last motherboard when swapping out the graphics card. It gave me a sickening twist of panic in my stomach when I did it, but with the card screwed into the case it was perfectly secure it worked fine for years.
“It’s too bad she won’t live, but then again, who does?”
Since all the reasonable answers have already been given, I’ll give a slightly less probable answer
That’s the graphics. You just have a processing unit now.
Same thing on my previous Asus mobo
That’s the gibblit. It connects the flim flam to the wasmitter
Awww RIP. I’ll be pouring one out for your pcie expansion slot.
It’s best to use it but there’s no worry to install the gpu without it

Welcome to: Guraphics Park
Brother your gpu to big for that. Go on Amazon and get a gpu brace support.
pcie retention clip?
should work without it but….heh……
not a big deal that it fell off. just make sure that you’re screwing down the PCIE slots well, and for the big -80/-90 cards, look into a support bracket. probably won’t make much, if any difference for smaller cards. that latch piece never added much and was usually completely blocked by GPUs in this day and age, making it way harder to swap them.
if it really worries you, a repair shop could probably reattach that clip pretty easily if it wasn’t completely snapped off, just came loose and fell out.
I call that the clipy clip!
Flux capacitor

Give his peener back
Just like when you have a handful of “spare parts” given to you from the mechanics that just worked on your car, I’m sure it’s fine.
A baby GPU
I broke the latch on my Z87 board and ran it for years like that with a GTX 1070. If the tabs aren’t broken off, you can remove the GPU and pop it back into place. I would get a support bracket just in case to secure it. Maybe you could find a spare or someone to 3D print you one for Car Shows so they don’t deduct points.
BTW I haven’t seen non-RBG ram on this sub in awhile. It’s nice to see a build that doesn’t look like KrustyKrab’s wet dream computer on here
It’s the elephant in the room.
The PCI-E retention clip.
This is used to help lock your GPU in place.
Same happened to me I’ve been fine
Looks like an anti sag GPU support. I took one out of an alienware machine the other day and promptly lost it
Thats the PCIE latch. I broke mine like 2 years ago and just fixed it a few weeks ago. I have a vertical GPU though. But I had absolutely zero issues with it missing. As long as you’re not moving the PC around all the time, and its screwed in securely, you should be fine.
That’s a doodlearm comfabulator
You broke the PCIe retainer latch. Best thing to break than anything else, not really needed
I had mine break off months ago bc I got careless and yanked out my gpu so I immediately recognised it
You broke the only thing preventing you gpu from damaging
