It’s all the viruses, gotta hide as soon as you open that closet and take a peak in

The comments say it’s a virus but I think it’s when task manager launches it makes it spike. Sometimes windows processes take up a lot of your cpu for an instant as well.

Just a spike after opening task manager, isnt a virus

It’s running something in the background when your computer is idle, like antivirus or disk defrag, but stops when you start using it again.

If it’s just when you open task manager then you’re good.

Lol, just to add, since no one has mentioned this yet, windows defender will do this by scanning files/programs after a certain period of inactivity. Explorer will also start indexing your directories and files after inactivity.
You can figure out if one of those is happening by leaving your task manager on the processes tab sorted by cpu usage and leave your computer inactive for like 5-10 minutes. Once cpu spikes look at what program is using the cpu without touching your mouse. Once you engage with your mouse/keyboard again the program stops doing it’s background task because the inactivity has ended.

Task Manager will show CPU maxed out very briefly when it loads in.

Easy fix; Always run taskmanager.

So 1, task manager does not err report well. This was slated for a fix but windows dropped it from the list so who knows if task manager is ever going to report accurately.
Basically when you do something your cpu ramps up to get it done now, this could be 1 core, 5 cores, x threads who knows, but it will spike. Task manager reports this as cpu usage even if it’s only 1 core (sometimes hence the need for a fix).
It is nothing to worry about your OS is trying to do what you want as quickly as possible. You have 95% of cpu available why not commit it to this task, if you load second task windows can rejiggle to 50/50 or some other percentage.
Basically having mixed out cpu in spikes is fun, having mixed out cpu for prolonged periods when you are not running anything, that’s an issue
That’s normal. Windows runs some background stuff when it detects you not using the PC. Opening the task manager means using it, so it stops

Lots of things can spike the CPU usage briefly, like opening an app, even opening Task Manager will do this. If you’re idling something like an antivirus might decide to do some scans, its the best time to do it because you’re not using it but it’ll stop once you start using it again. There’s a lot of stuff happening in the background that can cause spikes.
When you’re actually using the computer though, like playing a game, this wont happen because the game will be prioritized.

If it’s just sitting there idling and it suddenly jumps to 90% for no reason, check your event log.

I launch my pc and it just chugs now…
I fear it has to do with Micro$ofts need to kill w10 and drm related sht. Like nothing is really running in the taskmanager, but if looking at processes, a lot fo Microsoft connections, antivirus, service executables etc.
Like either they ar cryptomining for a like a minute or two, or they are literally re-running all anti malware and services drm executables to see what changes you have made since the last connection to their servers.
On my old ass surface 4, its like all fans kick in, memory shoots to 6gb, cpu load between 95 and 89%… Then it goes back to idle.
In a way I fear that they are artifically trying to cook old hardware so it fails and we all switch to w11 and their new drm crap. I have seen this done in my old devices like samsung did it, just cooked my cpu and memory for no reason after i foolishly installed the final update on my device and within months my device was dead, happened on my s2 and note 2… We are living in the age of artificial software based obsolescence after all.

If spikes are not stressing your PC for long, then it’s alright, otherwise, when it’s stressed for extended periods of time and when task manager opens it suddenly goes fine well i had a miner that was doing exactly that.
So analyse what is happening, I’d recommend check for hidden miners
