To all my fellow gamers. If game prices are set to high there is a simple and smart solution. we all have backlogs for a reason. time to show our preparation and planning.
Good luck backlogging titans like GTA 6 or the new Zelda.
reavevr
It is kind of wild that game that costs 19.99 on Steam done by solo dev is much more fun then anything produced by hundreds of people.
Just the whole concept is wild.
Wipedout89
None of the games are £90 though
PhillyDillyDee
Nintendo doesnt have massive sales on their own games often, but they do occasionally have them. I’m happy to wait.
Franck946
Gamepass is the worst…you will pay every month if you want to use the device you pay.
Buy a game once and you can use it indefinitely. But for 90, no.
MrDraiger
Jokes on you, their games keep the price for-almost-ever
TuskenRaiderYell
Pay $80 for a game and own it? Ludicrous. Pay $20/month and don’t own any games? Absolutely. Terrible argument.

“we all have backlogs for a reason”
Yeah, bad spending habits and no time. Or are you implying backlogs exist because people are expecting prices to rise higher than what they are willing to pay?
I_T_Gamer
If everyone is so up in arms about it, don’t buy them at that price point. BUT….. You know lots of folks will. Folks are quick to bash on a cash shop in some game they paid $60 for. They don’t bat an eye at paying $2 more per gallon of gas, game prices haven’t increased in ages.
I’m not excited about the increase, but considering the cost of every other thing has gone up, you should have seen it coming.
Blapoo
Gentle reminder that emulators exist and there are many many classic games that still hold up
Also, you already have a long backlog of games you never finished and we both know it
Ragor005
The problem is, “smart gamers” is not the market.
mnl_cntn
Yeeeep. Been enforcing a rule on myself this year. I have to beat 5 games that I haven’t before and that I bought before I can buy any new game (either newly launched or new to me).
Nintendo has absolutely nothing that I *need* and as such I will not be getting their new console and I already don’t get their games as $60 is too much for their first party titles with little content. If I wanna play a game from them I usually just rent it out.
Different_Hunter33
Game Pass is everything to me—both on console and PC
Prs_Shinra
The fact that you mention gamepass proves you are an xbox fanboy 😂
Sherool
Yeah I haven’t even paid 60$ for a game in decades, but that’s on PC where older games (usually) drop in price and sales happen regularly.
CareBearCartel
Just picked up like 4 deluxe editions of games for a combined total of under £60 in the playstation sale.
4 games for less than the price of a single game at launch. Companies are utterly taking the piss with their launch pricing.
Why would I buy a game at launch when in a year or two I can get it with all the content for a reasonable price?
ImpossibleMood2810
Atlantis meme, I am happy
Myhouseburnsatm
gamepass has increased its price by almost a 100% in the last few years and you don’t even “own” games like you do on steam, where you also don’t really own em but atleast its in your library.
Where do you think this trend is going OP?
Can’t wait for the monthly 40 bucks premium sub costs for these on demand services.

What if I told you you don’t need the newest thing as soon as it comes out? Such a non-issue fr, honestly compared to inflation we’ve had it pretty good for a long time
Tigbituss
Nothing can make me play my unplayed/unfinished steam games!
GlitteryCakeHuman
Gamepass and my steam backlog….made me buy a steamdeck instead. I had waited for the switch 2 but noped the f out of that
RosariusAU
Me, an Australian who remembers paying AU$100 in the PS2 era, is somewhat confused about the current state of events
Nullkin
When the switch 2 does extremely well, i wonder where all these people will be
db_325
People keep going on about $90/£90 games and it’s literally just a lie. Holy shit yes prices seem to be going up but you don’t need to make shit up, at least give the real numbers
excluded
You don’t understand that once you run out of backlog + gamepass the new games will be 90+ dollars until the next playstation increases it again. Or gta
So do you want to keep waiting for sales? Or play only indie games?
Also the greedier devs that sold deluxe edition for 3-7 days early access, will now charge 150-200 and it’s going to be the norm. Yes you are “smart” but not everyone is.
SenAtsu011
Pokemon, Mario, and Zelda fans will buy regardless.
Nintendo could price it at 200USD and idiots would still buy it.
Gamers are INFAMOUS for being horrible at voting with their wallets, and developers and publishers take advantage of that fact.
Mihsan
I was not buying games at 40-60$ already. First of all I see nothing there that I like, and secondly some 10-30$ indie provides MUCH more bang for the buck.
Shermanator92
Once we’re able to walk into a Target and get a Switch 2 with ease, everyone and their mother will buy one. It’s a Nintendo first party game, we’re gonna pay $80 and we’ll be very happy.
We’re gonna pay $100+ for GTA 6 and be thrilled with it. Gaming hasn’t had a price increase since the N64. It’s gonna be okay.
hateredditbuthere1am
The game is not $90. Not that I think the price is justified but it’s wrong. Also this topic has been beaten to death, just move on already jfc
Appropriate-Aide-593
So now we went from the 90$ thing which was false to 90£, wonder how much will switch 2 games cost next week on reddit.
masiuspt
Smart gamers + game pass together in the same sentence doesn’t make much sense.
Game pass is good for consumers, bad for the market in the long term. This is how Netflix started – don’t think for a second Game pass won’t lean into the greedy side of subscriptions soon enough.
Kourtos
I have a big backlog because i start a game and then go get bored after 4-5 hours.

Xemas12
Yeah this is kinda my thought. Love my switch and am looking forward to eventually owning Switch 2 but I have so many games in my backlog I’m not in a rush
lempip
Games should be priced by amounts of content. For example, Ubisoft games and GTA should be priced at $100 because they are the gold-standard of the video games industry. Short boring games like Mario or Zelda should be $20 max since kids cannot afford more expensive games.
