I had a helluva time troubleshooting this PS/2 model 50. The original floppy and hard drive's both failed on me. I got an adaptor that allowed me to replace the original floppy drive with a generic one. I also installed a reproduction Adlib Sound card that uses a proper OPL chip for FM synthesis! As of now it's a floppy only system until I track down a new storage solution. In the meantime I hope you guys enjoy this relic!

I can hear this shit on mute.
Lucky you having the small floppies in 1987. My first experience with computers were the big floppies! Are you sure the computer isn’t just from the 90s? It sort of looks like the computer we had then.
And suddenly I want to play Tie Fighter
Good idea. But poorly executed with all the non-PC noise being picked up by your microphone
Remembering these PCs boot up this slow makes me thankful for modern SSD hardware
Oh man, those weapons-grade power switches.
Having to manually set up IRQs was a BITCH.
Now if that doesn’t make you want to snort coke off a hookers ass, I dunno what will.
PS/2 Model 25 owner here! Got in 1988. Was able to retire my Brother Word Processor and finish college on the PS/2. Keys were so clackety, I used to drag it to the Common room in my dorm so I wouldn’t keep my roomate awake when I’d procrastinated and had to pull an all-nighter on a research paper. Had everyone gathering around waiting as Prodigy Internet sloooowly loaded sports scores so we didn’t have to wait for the 11PM news.
Amazing being a teen and downloading games from a BBS
We had a PS/2 Model 30 286 when I was young. It was a lower end model but it had regular ISA slots which was nice. Played a lot of Links Golf, Leisure Suit Larry, and the Bard’s Tale on that thing.
Nice compy, I’m sure you can play a bunch of videoletrix games on it-strongbad
Even with my sound off…. I can still hear this beast….
My Dad had gotten a free PS/2 for work from IBM, he was suddenly hated by his team for a month that day.
He had invited me over to his office to hook it up and try it out.
Man, discovering geeky gadgets was what we lived for at the time.
My old man passed away not long ago so this reminds me some good memories… we had a 3inch Disc drive, and a 80MB hard drive, But that same red switch.

Memories! I was more blown away when I added a SoundBlaster to Wing Commander (with the voice add-on of course) than when I upgraded from EGA to VGA.
And as someone else mentioned… X-Wing and Tie Fighter!
The nostalgia hits hard!
Me in bed hearing that jam rn

Oregon trail here we come !! 🤣
Ah…the system speaker. I actually miss it sometimes
I wish my PC had a power switch like THAT.
Me, personally, I would need a bath to wash off the afterbirth.. but yeah I do remember these years after.. 🙂
No thanks. It didn’t scale. It wasn’t perceived as things are now, it was slow, cumbersome, hard to work with. Installing new hardware was a pain.
