There are two types of Solar Farms

  1. Photovoltaic (PV) solar panels, which are the standard panels that absorb sunlight and convert it directly into electricity. They ABSORB the light, they do not reflect it. The goal of a solar PANEL is to absorb as much light as possible
  2. Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) farms, which do indeed use mirrors or lenses to focus sunlight onto a central tower, creating intense heat that’s then used to generate power. The mirrors REFLECT light, onto a central tower, where water is converted to steam to make electricity

To use Solar Panels on CSP farm, is much less efficient than either option, because the Solar Panels are now absorbing most of the light and the central tower is getting very less heat PLUS the circular orientation of the Solar Panels instead of making them face the south, means the Panels facing north are now getting less and less sunlight

Matter of fact, the parallelly arranged panels on the top right corner of the picture, are actually in correct formation and are facing south to get as much sunlight as possible

But choom, you ask, How do you know this is not advanced tech??

The Panels are dark as shit, they ain't reflecting anything. You cannot beat basic physics to make advanced tech

    Choomba. You’re overthinking it.

IIRC i read/heard somewhere that they are not “solar” farms they are microwave farms or something else collector I think, satellites from space send the beams and these used to collect them.

not sure, someone please verify or am I that wrong?

EDIT just checked the wiki, these are [Satwave Power Plant](https://cyberpunk.fandom.com/wiki/Satwave_Power_Plant)

I believe this is a microwave transmission farm for orbital collection.

  4. theTenz

    Yes, they’re CSP farms.

The mirrors don’t reflect anything because your GPU would explode.

  5. What does it fucking matter? Cool find, whatever, doesn’t give you the right to be rude to the commenters.

WHAT IF they took one technology in each hand and went “what if we like”….

Is it the colours or are some of the panels blue – PVs and the darker ones up close the CSV ones?

  8. BadgersAndJam77

V should email somebody about that…from their Home PC Desktop, which is the only way in game to access the internet.

CDPR must think we’re a bunch of gonks. What are they hiding and why would they do this to us? Good work OP!

  10. A_Random_Sidequest

iirc they aren’t the “regular” solar or mirror collecting as of today, because they gather microwaves from orbital mirrors/collectors/solar panels that beam down the energy

realistically the reason these look like solar panels instead of whatever super specific thing they should look like is they didnt want to make a new model because it doesnt make sense to, most people will see the solar panels and go “neat.”

they might not have even modeled these solar panels, they could be a stock asset they bought and stamped into the scene lol its much easier to do that then spend extra time building a bunch of shit for scratch a small fraction of the fanbase will actually appreciate.

every time i personally have looked at this place i just thought it looked cool and went about my killings.

These solar plants are just background set dressing in Cyberpunk.

If you really want to gripe, check out Fallout: New Vegas’ quests That Lucky Old Sun and Sunshine Boogie. They’re actual authored content about solar plants where mirrors from the former can be used as photovoltaic panels in the latter.

Also the CSP farm is somehow powering an Akira-style orbital laser.

  13. xdeltax97

What if it’s a reverse and the central tower radiates out light at all times through satellite to ground connection, and onto the panels? That’s what I thought it was doing instead.

  14. Tonzillaye2002

New Vegas did the same thing right?

  15. WinstonMarrs

Dude, do not upset the fanboys here by criticizing anything about this glorious and perfect game.

  16. lucianw

That’s a smart observation! Nice catch.

Have you seen the film “Gattacca”? three decades on and the CSP from that movie still sticks in my head. I wish CSPs were the more effective form of energy generation because they’re so darned beautiful.

(contrary to what some people said, you’re not rude at all).

  17. HauntingDog5383

Isn’t tower SOURCE of light to panels? Light send from orbit.

  18. danieldan0803

It is designed to absorb Arasaka branded light so it wouldn’t harm the Militech Solar power system

  19. GHOSTVIPERZ28

If you wanted to see each of those panels as even remotely reflective mirrors, then your FPS would be the same as this screenshot.

how do you have a canto, sandevistan and a berserker all at the same time and how does it work with all of them being bound to same key, is it like a slotmachine for your Operating system?

  21. realizeseven

The story explains all of this after you meet Hanako at Embers.

  22. OCGreenDevil

Is the mission where you shoot down Hellman with Panam, she calls them microwave panels, not sun panels, don’t know if It’s and in game thing or just her talking in slang.

  23. VanDran85

They are all pointing towards my impressive cock

I love how OP is just genuinely debating the idea, but some folks are like >:(
