When I first saw this I was 100% sure this statue was going to be a mini boss like the Giant Spider from Zetsubou. It even starts to glow like it's about to do something during that step of the EE but then nothing happens.. it's just weird.
Its a statue of the Dark aether worm seen in MWZ. It seems it was a creature that Shem and his flock worshipped given the crumbling remains of worshippers there.

Even though I know that’s an aether worm, it just looks like a Worm god

Worm god that the hive worship

I had a Sam line that said that the natives who lived on the land of the mansion before Shem wiped them out and took it worshipped this worm underground
It’s actually one of the coolest pieces of storytelling they’ve done in zombies imo. We know this thing from MWZ, which is 30 years in the future, here we are seeing what might be the origin of one random Aether worm , and I find it SICK how it starts glowing purple as you do the ray gun quest, like it was coming alive but we took the energy for the ray gun instead of unleashing the worm. If you didn’t know, it’s purple in MWZ, so it glowing purple was a PTSD moment
The question is why the natives were worshipping an Aether worm. Did they build this statue and try to make it come to life? Where did they previously encounter an aether worm if that’s the case?
I feel we aren’t theorizing enough about the stone statues of enemies around the maps. How were there stone versions of Amalgams on the tomb if they were inventions of Dr modi? How are there stone versions of Aether worms? Of doppleghasts? The dark aether ecosystem interests me

The story is called Dune.
Also apparently it’s a monster from a previous title
