Yep, when it’s a free game it doesn’t really matter where you’re getting it, unless it’s some really obscure and shady store that nobody’s heard of. And in this case, Microsoft is itself the owner of the IP.
They have a bunch of free games right now, including Bioshock Remastered, Borderlands 2 and Pre Sequel, Tomb Raider Legend, Kerbal Space Program, Lego The Hobbit, Tales from Borderlands, Greedfall and a bunch of others you can claim on various storefronts like Amazon Games, GOG and Epic
