TLDR – One of my best friends from high school picked up a promotion at work that has him moving out of town. He's come a hella long way but, dealing with other problems, has been on a 3060 he got for like $800 during COVID for a while. He moves today, so last night we were up until 2am getting this thing installed (it is coming out for the move).

Getting this thing in was absolutely wild. He has/had a 850w psu but didn't have enough PCIE cables, only one 8pin with a 6+2 daisy chained. We realized this at 9:30pm last night and didn't have much hope. Realized a Walmart was still open 5 miles away and ran the heck out the door, forgetting both our wallets. Figured we could use tap to pay on our phones so we just sent it. Got to the store at 10:10 and found out t2p is a hard no. His brother was an absolute chad and brought my boy's wallet, but not mine. We were walking out with the PSU at 10:56.

Heres where it got fun, my buddy lives on a military base, and I didn't have my ID/Drivers License…big no no. We tell the gate guards what happened, they're cool about it, until one notices my registration tags are like 5 months out, WTF I paid that??? We get pulled aside while they run my info.

While were waiting, I find my current tags in the still sealed envelope. Get a guys attention after laughing our asses off and hes like "Great, now do that with your ID". We all have a laugh and agree for my buddy to take my car to his place and get my wallet.

Now, it is passed midnight and Im chilling out at the guard post with 5 military police officers, another person who printed FAKE TAGS for 3 years and just got caught, and a dude who was there for some other stuff. Gets to about 12:20 and they call me up and were all good to go.

Get back to his place, remove all the old cables, fix the cable routing, slap El Monstro in the PC, get drivers, and finally boot this thing at ~1:30am. Naturally, I live 70 miles away and need to get home to my wife. Between taking naps and driving, I finally limped my ass home at 5am.

Hahaha. This was almost my exact same experience last night. My 750 watt psu only had a daisy chained 2-8pin pcie cables and wouldnt turn it on past lighting the exterior lights. Has to get another PSU. The things a beast!
