I have that exact card in my PC right now. I’m still playing every modern AAA games at medium/high settings on a 3440×1440 screen achieving 50-60fps.
You can understand why nvidia will **never** do an error like this again.

Honestly, the 10 series was one of nvidia’s greatest mistakes. Doubled the vram for just about every card, shrunk the die size so they were very efficient for the performance, incredible uplift in performance from the previous gen, and had tons of choices for just about anyone’s budget. Even the laptop side was great since they used the exact same die’s as the desktop counterpart, albeit power limited, but you could at least guess the performance you’d get.
Don’t forget, the 20 series was considered a failure because people kept buying 10 series

3090 is the next 1080ti but people are too afraid of its scalping reputation to admits it. Probably gonna smokes the 5060 or 5060ti at higher res due to more Vram whenever those card released too.

Ark Survival Ascended is a notorious poorly optimized destroyer of gpu performance and the 1080ti still put up a decent fight with it in 2024 without any new FSR nor DLSS tech @1440P Mixed High/Epic Settings!
Still using a 1080ti for a home ollama setup. Works suprisingly well, with vram the obvious limitation.

Have a 1070ti still running anything i throw at it in 60fps high/ultra without breaking a sweat.
10xx generation was the best and it all went downhill from there including the pricing that’s just ridiculous nowdays.

Nvidias bighest mistake. This was their biggest blunder for them but the best thing for the consumer in the long term. If you could solder tensor cores to 1080ti to have DLSS it would still be perfect.

when the 1080ti was released, the vast majority of gamers had a monitor with a FullHD resolution, after that 2k and 4k monitors began to appear. You can still play new games with better settings on, say, a 4070 Super/4070 ti Super. If you have a 4k monitor, then yes, you need something like a 4080 or 4090
P.S. I have a fullHD monitor and a 4070ti super video card

I feel like we’re falling behind on GPUs, especially when it comes to VRAM. By now, we should be seeing cards with 35GB or more. It feels off to me. The 10-series brought such a major leap in performance, but since then, it’s felt like we’re only getting incremental improvements. After the big strides with the 10-series, I expected more progress, but it’s been more like baby steps since then.

If Nvidia was smart they would release updated reboots of there best cards like the 1080ti at prices the average person doesn’t have to finance to afford. Instead of releasing slightly better next gen cards at 3 times the price of the last gen.

I don’t understand why Reddit worships this card so much. It’s from 2017. I guess if you only play old games at 1080P it’s still relevant. Otherwise it’s horribly outdated and low performing.
