It’s still very popular in East Asia in general. Personally when I go back to my home country I would still stop by Internet cafes (now they’re called cyber cafes tbh) to have fun despite I have my own pc capable of playing almost everything I want. It’s more of the environment rather than the PC performance tbh.

I remember visiting my country in 2008, and these cafe were everywhere, and some place even serve food, and have AC..My uncle ran one from 2012 to 2020, because after 2019 it just not worth it anymore, especially with price increase for parts and smart phone becoming more available in more rural areas.

I used to go to one in Garden Grove to play Counter Strike in 2001. Guys would be screaming in anger at each other in Vietnamese after getting killed

These are still a thing here in Turkey. In fact here in some rather obscure part of Istanbul (Anatolian side, Kartal) there’s a internet Cafe 2 minute walk from my home that got driving Sims with ultrawide and other pcs with 480hz screens (Some alienware monitors I didnt look up the models). I don’t know the specs in ultrawides but I think the 480hz ones had 3080 inside them paired with 12700k? It didn’t exactly hit 500fps in all scenarios in Val but it was a plausible experience for just 50 TRY per hour (around 1.5 bucks but it’s not cheap by local standards). The driving sims were 200 TRY per hour tho so like a bit above 4 bucks. Again crazy by local standards. They offered some budget options for the kids too like just 35 TRY for normal PCs that I believe had 240hz screens and decent specs in them. They also had vip options that was the middle ground for 40 TRY with 360hz but the specs in those were kinda lackluster so they hardly hit 300fps in val (I think one of them had a 3050 in it). The peripherals quality wise weren’t bad and in quite good condition, had no complaints about gaming chairs they offered either. Love the owner, he looks like your typical Turkish conservative uncle but he was open minded about me being non religious, albeit still wanting me to learn more about Islam. He said he likes tech stuff so this line of job is probably one of the most fitting. The only bad part of it would be all the middle schoolers yelling in their microphones while playing, again, valorant.
