Can’t imagine finding a ps2 will be difficult.
As someone who never played the original, I’m having an absolute banger of a time with the game.
That being said, there are myriad Easter eggs and hat tips to the original game based on what friends have told me, so playing the original could be worth it if you’d like to fully experience those inclusions.

I decided to watch a play through of this the other night, being “one of my faves”, and all.
Only to realise I’d never actually played it.
I did beat SH1 and 3, but could have sworn I did 2, too. Apparently not.

Team Bloober did an excellent job. Playing the original can give you some real moments of joy in how stuff was altered

Ahhh…I remember in 8th me and a few friends rented this game from “Hollywood Video” we totally got the walk through off line and cheated every action it was a fun all nighter…i miss those days…

Properly fully played through the original last year on PC using the enhanced patch, story and atmosphere are great of course, but somehow the Remake is even scarier, I’d play the original first anyways as the story is only 10-12 hours going in blind and it’s neat to see all the changes the remake does because they even changed how things progress and the layout of the maps
I have the Xbox version that included an extra little side story for Maria.
Just a heads up: Your pre-Greatest Hits edition lacks the short prequel about Maria.
The original game holds up pretty good. Enjoy!

I played the original when it first came out in 2001 and loved it. In preparation for the remake I replayed it again this weekend. Overall, I think it holds up very well. There are some design elements that are a bit dated, if I’m being honest. But it’s a fantastic game.

I like how much attention the game has been getting as of late. Because of that, i am 100% getting it on pc as soon as i am done with shadow of the erdtree.

The PC version is abandonware and can be downloaded from myabandonware; you can then install the SH2: Enhanced Edition mod for the best og SH2 experience possible.
