Said this countless times before. You can make your own efficiency by adjusting voltage/power limits. Technology and die shrinks don’t advance too fast anymore. Let us who don’t care about power use and size have our performance!
Crafted_Mecke
How do you wanna get more performance and lower powerusage at the same time, makes not very much sense to me
That’s like getting more speed in a car but with lower horsepower
dedoha
Just wait for official specs at least lol. 4090 was also rumored to have 600W TDP but it turned out to be way more efficient
XXXVI
yes this is all a plot by nvidia to increase your energy bill and make you buy a bigger case
glyiasziple
i mean nvidias cards are more efficient that amd 🤷‍♂️ the lower to mid end 40 and 30 series cards are really efficient as well
New_Significance3719
Nvidia *did* design a more power efficient GPU, thats not to say that the cables have not been an issue with the 40 series, but you’d have to have your head pretty deep in the sand not to know how incredibly efficient the 40 series has been and how likely the 50 series will be as well.
Look at wattage to frames between the current gen AMD and Nvidia cards and it’ll tell you all you need to know.
But yeah, cables are an issue and they’re too damn expensive.

I’d be curious to see an honest analysis of how much that happens due to technology hitting a wall versus corporate greed.

And somehow there’re doing it both

I can’t believe some regulatory agency hasn’t stepped in by now. Consumer grade GPU’s shouldn’t be able to consume as much power as they do. AMD and NVIDIA should be forced to make efficient GPU’s, not make heating units just so they can one-up eachother in benchmarks.
Enthousiasts can still overclock, normal consumers can have a reasonable energy consumption.
Darklordofbunnies
In much the same way we see with a lot of games these days: there seems to be little pushing devs & engineers to try & optimize performance.

Another day, another post by someone who clearly skipped their physics class on what “efficiency” is.
Electrical_Humor8834
So far, Nvidia has efficiency cup. Radeon times are long gone . The same game is run on Radeon with 350W+ and Nvidia needs 220W

Also 4090 does 3090ti performance at way less wattage, so it is more efficient.
badgerAteMyHomework
The 40 series are the most efficient GPUs ever made. Before that it was the 30 series. Soon it will be the 50 series.
What do you propose to outcompete the billions in research?

Me when I see people in this thread call 450w tdp “efficient”

OP crying about leaks, while current gen AMD is nowhere in terms of efficiency… Yet this is Nvidia problem, despite 40 series using significantly less power.

Every last gen of nvidia gpus came with some decent improvements in efficiency

Some people thinks that big companies doesn’t spend enoguh money on R&D (research and development). You can’t make any new technological devices without R&D. Also tech companies push their limits hard to improve current technology.
ItsBotsAllTheWayDown
Its like this has already happened before and is the way things work with PC tech over a decade. Progress go fast then refinement happens and it slows then moves onto getting the most out of it by pumping more power into things. Then onto new design. Go back and look at AMDs Fx series of chips or other R9290 /fury / 295 and so on. GIVE ME ALL THE WATTS MY CARDS CAN HANDLE then I get to choose how efficient I want it to be.
Aromatic_Wallaby_433
To be fair the ADA cards are actually really efficient especially if you do a basic undervolt.
My 4080 Super FE runs 2715 MHz at 0.975V and peaks at around 270W in stress tests, but a lot of games go as low as 200-220W peak for performance better than 3090 Ti.
Yung_wuhn
It was only aftermarket connectors that melted lmao

Utility costs arent a problem for everyone, it just depends where you live and what your local and higher governments have done to make energy so expensive. I dont even factor it in when purchasing something.

But Nvidia literally did the first slide for the 40xx series…
Rexter2k
Sometimes I wonder what nvidia and AMD can do with todays tech, to create the fastest and most efficient gpu that fits in a single slot. Only. With and without a power connector.
Yes I know this won’t be GeForce 4090 levels of performance, but I bet it can be better than a 3050 or Radeon 6500.
DependentAnywhere135
Nvidia gpus are more efficient than ever. This is a severe misunderstanding. The 4090/5090 are extremely energy efficient and the top end of the spec performing amazingly for the energy into them vs previous gens.

Honestly? The moment my 3080ti isn’t good enough anymore I will switch to radeon

And you pay pigs will run out and buy it even paying extra due to demand

dont bother, shills will still buy it

I put my 4090 (Peak 68C) + 7800X3D (Peak 79C) into an sffpc, so I don’t know if your statement is true, NR200P Max here. Even newer NCase M2 is designed to fit 4 slot GPUs now. I prefer down sizing despite the GPUs being chonky. It is so light compared to my previous mid tower it’s not even funny.

Is there even a point of buying a card that isn’t 80/90 tier? Like using things like Frame generation or ray tracing/path tracing is a marker point but eats all of your vram by enabling these features. Can’t really utilize those with the 12gb you’re allotted on the 70 tier but they still highlight those features for them.
