USB4 2.0? Why is it so hard to follow a normal, coherent number scheme?!
DinosaurAlert
That is a really poorly written article attributing the faster speed of USB4 2.0 to “new cables”. It looks like AI took a press release from Elecom and rewrote it. There will be thousands of of cables that support it on Amazon as soon as the spec actually exists in the real world.
Thats like saying “We have cat6 wires and can now experience 10gbps internet speeds.”

Until they pinky swear, I remain a sceptic.
adkenna
Now I can download Ram even faster.
jean_dudey
Yeah this versioning scheme is totally understandable and doesn’t confuse any users out there looking to buy cables!

The usb naming system is beyond fucked
InfernalBiryani
Whoever came up with the USB naming scheme should be fired.
turbotong
These are gen-4, usb-C cables.
They should be called C4.
deefop
i swear to god they’re trolling us with the naming convention at this point.
Also, the cables aren’t the important part, the standard is the important part

The naming of USB makes me want to Baja Blast my brains out.
Sqribblz
Damn! Thats fast. I love how manufacturers said serial rules for peripheral interconnects… then said serial sucks and went from serial to parallel communications…and then right back to serial.
BTW, the standards bodies for communications and compression standards don’t usually want to talk to you until you’ve got a 2x improvement on transfer speed or compression efficiency… so going on that, the next iteration we’ll be looking at (USB 5.0) will be hitting 160Gbps.

why can’t they just use USB-C 3.x, the numbering scheme of any other thing?
If they make it mandatory to include the full usb name (so with the x) that would be the easiest for everyone

Waiting on USB4 2.0.1.7.8b v1.9.7.3a
UltimateGamingTechie
Why not simply name it USB 4.2?
1CraftyDude
Just when you thought usb naming couldn’t be worse.
Mikoyan-I-Gurevich-4
Huh, external SSDs now seem viable ngl.
Pro4791
For fucks sake just call it USB5
fogoticus
Call it USB 4.1? Nah USB 4 2.0. The naming scheme is so fucking stupid.
lazycakes360
It’ll be fun when all of those cables don’t come with the “universal” symbol denoting that they are USB4 2.0
lbiggy
Wait. We’re at usb FOUR NOW? 2.0? WHAT THE F IS GOING ON?
spacemanspliff-42
All the new tech is coming out and here we all are like… Fuck.
RedditBoisss
Calling it USB 2.0 again definitely seems like the wrong move
Photeos_Akasha
Good peripheral, but if you need to upgrade something, just wait for the ryzen 9700x3d or buy the 7800x3d.
Xerio_the_Herio
Will my 4 yo aorus mb support?
PyrosFists
What’s the point when SSDs don’t even read/write that fast?
YourBoyToy5
I love how transfer to an external drive will still be less than 1% of that speed
