Why do I feel studies like this would swing heavily between years of good single player releases (like recently) and years of novel new multiplayer games?

  2. Arch_Stanton1862

Meanwhile gamedevs: Let’s make another online multiplayer FPS with pink AK’s and pretty colors, because we don’t have quite enough yet.

On today’s news: water makes things wet

Like hell yeah, RDR or cyberpunk’s success despite the buggy start for the latter should have made it obvious.

I already have a tiring and stressful career, I deal with all sorts of people all day. Why the hell would I want to deal with random people in my games too? I want no people in my games.

Especially teenagers, no teenagers at all. I was a teenager once, I know what they are.

It is either co-op with old friends once in a blue moon or single player. Fuck online multiplayer. Fuck lobbies. Fuck random people cursing and flaming. I will play my action games on easy, and have fun, and burn fucking stress off.

PS. Writing this was good, I am off to play FF16 in story mode now. Great game.

Maybe yes Single players are preferred but multiplayer if successful, would make more banks than anything.

GTA V is most successful entertainment product of all time. Is it coz of its story? Not entirely. It’s it’s online mode and shark cards.

  6. Deep_Blue_15

Noooooooooooo, everything needs to be always online MP only Live Service with Skins and Ingame Shops!

  7. GamingRobioto

I’d probably play more multiplayer games if they didn’t all feel like an elaborate scam

  8. andherBilla

Every major publisher: This means more multiplayer games.

  9. gurugabrielpradipaka

Single-player bitch here. Never, in 30 years of gaming, I was interested in multiplayer.

  10. Vonbalt_II

Singleppayer is just a better experience most times and the way multiplayer games have been overfilled with predatory monetization for more than a decade now doesn’t help their situation at all.

  11. Ryoohki_360

Problem with PC MP is that when a game is free, there’s so much cheating going on that there’s no point of playing them imho

  12. i’m 35. Days of competetive games/ online MMOs are over for me. Don’t have that much time. From time to time i play little Starcraft 2 but that’s stresfull nad not chill. So yeah, after 20 years of competetive gaming it’s only single player for me now.

  13. True_metalofsteel

I lost interest in MP games because no matter what there’s always a “meta” that every sweatlord will follow and crush whoever is trying something different.

It’s true for card games, shooters, maybe just racing sims are immune to this.

  14. FanaticDamen

PvE coop games, please. MMOs are great. Dont get me wrong. And there’s 100% a space for multiplayer games, like battlefield, cod, smite/league, etc.

But who doesnt enjoy just playing through a story with a friend or a few friends? Running a private mc server to enjoy? Seamless coop on elden ring should have been the wake up call.

I love single player games. But so many of them ive thought “this would be great with coop”.

  15. Horst9933

Sony be like: No you don’t, we have a gazillion live service games like concord for you in our pipeline because of our live service initiative, you will buy them and you will enjoy them.

  16. Say that to the excecutives of game publishers. Wasn’t it a square enix excec that said that looking at the success of genshin, what gamers want is live service ?

    Absolutely tone deaf…

  17. Chronic_01

I’m starting to prefer COOP games with no PVP or at least optional PVP and its all because of how people play.

People will abuse aim assist and abuse mechanics. You all know what I’m talking about…

It just kills the whole game for me.

  18. Superb-Dragonfruit56

It’s not the same anymore for me. Before it was people in cool armor like COD BO3 or war like BF4

Now it’s just women running around in bikini with a cat as a weapon how am I even suppose to spot that

  19. Zockgone

I think most people like coop games, and most good coop games are fucking great solo too.

  20. PH03N1X_F1R3

Getting into an online game is not easy.

  21. Kumo1019

The public playercount numbers like steamcharts say otherwise but sure

  22. Kindly_Extent7052

I prefer mp where the survey ? I wanna vote there.

  23. TriLink710

Well it’s just easier to organize. If I’m spending $60 on a game, it’s usually primarily single player. Even if it’s shorter, I just feel like if I’m spending that much I don’t want my enjoyment to be tied to other people getting online.

  24. EldrinVampire

    Single player and COOP please

I’d love to have a true horror game that’s coop

  25. KingHauler

I’m old and don’t have much time to play. So when I do, I like single player games or co-op games I can play with my wife.

I like rimworld, beam.ng, baldurs gate, homeworld, doom, cyberpunk… and many many others.

Nowhere on my list, is there a multi-player fps or other trash AAA game.

I haven’t played call of duty or battlefield since the PS3 days, and I haven’t played any of these trash GASS games.

The only one I ever liked was Destiny. But I played the single-player story campaigns, they were really fun. Then bungie got rid of those so… I stopped playing it.

  26. Angry_Monkeys0

There is a difference between preferring single player games and preferring to not play with assholes. If gaming companies actually banned the accounts of people being disruptive, maybe people would prefer multi-player.

  27. CraigTheLejYT

Finals the only game that’s multiplayers that’s fun atm

  28. TheNameTaG

Single player games are boring imo. I like games like Elden Ring, but this is a rare example. The most I can handle is 30 hours in single player games. Definitely not like cs 2, battlefield and other similar games where I can just enter and play for an hour without caring about main story or trashy side quests.

  29. blabolik

I only enjoy games when they are i singleplayer And then modded to become coop so i can play it with my bro

  30. Glittering_Net_7734

Not in Asia, everyone flexes on how high their ranks are on competitive games. Just consider how much Koreans spend on LOL skins.

  31. YixoPhoenix

I prefer multiplayer/coop and I goddamn miss early Overwatch days when everyone was on voice chat. Also balance is probably the single most important and most fucked thing in all multiplayer games. A single unbalanced char or bad matchmaker can ruin it for everyone involved.

  32. AncientPCGuy

Would explain the popularity of Sony games.
I do prefer SP gaming but also realize the push for MP is driven by profit. MP players are far more likely to pay extra for cosmetics and it is highly profitable to sell pay to win content.

  33. How many played BG3 with friends? I think the problem is not multiplayer per se, but what type of multiplayer.

  34. fallen_one_fs

Meanwhile, Tim Swine: “the future of gaming is social interaction”.

  35. Exotic-Replacement-3

I work 5 days a week and I want to play games as a way to relax. That is the reason I play older games because it is less stressful and made me relax a bit after work and family. I don’t want to deal with morons in my games.
