It’s the sad, sorry state of fighting games these days. They release as full price alphas, and charge you more to move to beta, then even more for what should have been full release. And by that time, the game is “dead”. Time to move on to the next one.
And that’s not even going into the 100s to 1000s of dollars worth of cosmetic dlc that would have simply been unlockables in bygone days.

Remember how SF2 famously released with all playable characters including Bison and great balance?
Oh wait no, it iterated through five different versions, bought separately, and the Turbo versions likely wouldn’t have happened without modders.

Isn’t this true of all Capcom games? Several hundred dollars of cosmetic DLC. Multiple editions and passes. Unfinished / buggy messes on release.

I just want to unlock characters by doing various feats. Is that so much to ask? Even Nintendo fucked that up with the more recent Smash Bros and Mario Kart. Is it really so hard??

It’s ruined modern fighters for me. I spent a fortune on MK11 and SFV content. Worse, I bought both on PS4 and later, PC. At least on PC I got them with all the content for cheap later on. I’m just a casual offline player, bought almost every SF and MK since the 16-bit era, so I’m waiting for Super Hyper Arkade Komplete Edition before jumping into the current versions.
Worse, as I experienced with SFV and MK11, is the heavy advertising of and pushing of DLC in-game.

I dunno man, sf6 is a fkn awesome game

This is BS.
Fighting games, specialy SF never came out with big roster.
Dude can’t recall we had 4 versions of SF2… Understand that im not defending the DLC stuff etc.
But you can’t blame SF6 for not releasing Mr Bison in the main roster, while they delivered an incredible polished game upon release compared to every other fighting games.

And the “fighting game community” will fight you to death (with a keyboard), defending the DLCs practices. I honestly think this is one of the most interesting behavioral manipulation in this industry, deserves to be studied on marketing schools. The same exact people who got revolted not so long ago when Street Fighter vs Tekken had DLC “on disc”, nowadays they watch the Evo tournament announcing a wave of DLCs to Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8, Guilty Gear, KOF15, etc.. and they cheer every time, lol it’s straight up bizarre. As a outsider who got used to watch Maximillian Dood for english practice (dude is a talented communicator), it’s fascinating to watch this “community”, it’s a like a freak show
Street Fighter V had regular, arcade, champion, and an anniversary edition. This is such a dumb meme.

Can you pirate it?

Street Fighter 6 is such a massive improvement as a product over 5, you legit has less things in the “complete” game. Not to mention how nobody even plays 5 anymore, you won’t find good online matches.

This is one of the reason why i still emulate soul calibur or dead or alive….

That’s basically what I’m going to do. I wanna play SF6 badly but nope. I am patient as hell.

You’re huffing copium if you’re an old man. You want to play SF2 at the aracde? The standard was $.25 a play.
Then you want to buy SF2 to play at home? Which version do you want:
Street Fighter II: The World Warrior – (1991)
Street Fighter II’: Champion Edition – (1992)
Street Fighter II’: Hyper Fighting – (1992)
Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers – (1993)
Super Street Fighter II Turbo – (1994)
Hyper Street Fighter II: The Anniversary Edition – (2003)
Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix – (2008)
Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers – (2017)
I’d rather have the DLC and but the game once. SF6 also has arguably the best single player content of any SF to date.
