First off I don't know if this is the right subreddit but I tried asking other subreddits and haven't gotten answers and I don't know better so forgive me please. So I was stress testing (prime95) my computer when I realized my cpu temps weren't hitting over 60°C but my clockspeeds were dropping from 4.6 GHz to 3.7 -3.6 GHz. I have a Ryzen 7 5700x and a Wraith Prism cooler. I also know that this particular cpu isn't very power hungry and could be the cause to low temps but why are my clockspeeds dropping so much. And when they drop they don't rise back up. I have never touched bios or tried to overclock it or nothing. What could be the cause of this? Could my cooler be the problem or what? Is this thermal throttling? Please help 🙁

Maybe temp limit in bios is for some reason set to 60°C? And it downclokcs it self to maintain temps lower than 60. Have you checked that?
CPU is working fine. you’re seeing lower frequency in a heavy all core workload resultant from the wimpy stock power limit of these chips. that’s it. get a better cooler and raise those PBO limits, assuming your motherboard can hang.
Upgrade cooling and remove limits. 100% means it is working lol.
The default PBO values for the 5800X are these here if you want to try them:

The default values for your 5700X look like this:

You can find these settings under “Advanced” -> “AMD Overclocking” -> “Precision Boost Overdrive” in the BIOS menus.
