This is a consequence of the intel failure, now that intel is basically dead on the market, there is no competition and prices rise as a result. The opposite was happening a while back the other way around.

Several reasons I can think of:
* lowered to stopped Ryzen 7 7800X3D production because 9800X3D on the way
* disappointing 9000 launch so far, so people are buying the proven chip instead of betting on the unreleased 9800X3D
* prices always seems to rise after the summer, waiting for the “sales” like Black Friday, Christmas etc.

I am planning to build a new PC sometime in the next 8 months or so. I almost jumped on a Microcenter bundle for this CPU a month or so ago but decided to wait because I wasn’t ready to pull the trigger on a GPU yet and also I figured the release of the new line of CPUs might drop the price on that one a bit.

This is not price gouging, this is absolute basic economics 101, supply and demand. There is huge demand for this processor that is not longer even being manufactured (i.e. *zero* supply; only what is *already* on the market is available). It’s completely normal and reasonable for retailers to raise the price in these circumstances, so that they can maximize profit from the (idiots) that are willing to pay these prices because they need it *now now now!!!*
When a product ends production, MSRP is out the window and they are now worth whatever the market is willing to pay for them. This isn’t price gouging, these are high end luxury goods. Price gouging is when a supermarket charges $10 for a bag of rice that they paid 50c for, knowing that food is something people need to buy in order to survive.

I originally built with a 7700x near when they released. Bought a 7600x but I returned it same day as I found the 7700x on sale (when sales first started for them) same day online when I got home for the same price as the 7600x. I had to hold off building due to construction in my house so when my bro built a PC he needed one handy to complete his install all at once so I sold him mine. At that point I delayed a month or so bc the 7800x3D was about to come out. Got it right when it came out with a little delay but I wasn’t quite ready to build yet anyways. It’s all been set up for about 6 months now though.

I’m building my first PC and was dead set on having this cpu. Best buy said they were in stock for 449 and when I tried to buy it switched to out stock. Shortly after I caught one for sale at a Walmart 20 minutes from my house for $399. It said 1 left in stock and it was the only Walmart out of like 8 in a 75 mile radius. I don’t know if I got lucky or still over paid lol. Couldn’t take any chances

I’ve been an intel guy my whole life and got the 7800X3D on a whim for my newest gaming build based on the good things I’ve been hearing about AMD and what the micro center guy had to say. Couldn’t be any happier and got it on a crazy deep sale combo with ram and mobo. Crazy to see it like this and how close I came to missing out on

A lot of people were holding out for 9000, having completely forgot that the X3Ds have *always* released a few months later or being disappointed by the launch performance and deciding on a 7800X3D instead.
