It’s a service for people who don’t know how to install it, and people who do know how to install it won’t need that
Apps may be free, but those are businesses, their time ain’t free, they have bills, employees etc
So yeah, it’s justified
It’s called labor. And it’s not free.
Who would have guessed that someone doing something for someone as a business would charge money?
well yeah, you’re paying for their time
do you want your cables extra neat? that’s gonna take an hour of someone’s time. Do you want your software installed? well that’s 5 minutes per piece of software
people like their salaries, you can just not pay them and install it and clean up your cables yourself
I really think the silliest option is the packaging. If it breaks, they need to replace it. It’s not really a loss to the customer aside from the inconvenience. So they are asking you to spend money to make them less likely to lose money.
I would understand if they’re charging for installing per se, as it have some convenience and it’s a service. But 5 pounds per app?! That’s a robbery! Installing just one is a one minute job requiring a skill of a 10 years old schoolkid. So that’s like 300 pounds/hour of unqualified labor.
If you think this is outrageous, let me tell you about the turn it off and on again squad we pay at $40+ an hour

that is pretty funny, but does make sense from the business standpoint. i’d never pay anyone to install anything on my pc, but yet, via work, i’m forced to. that’s just how it goes sometimes.

Well yeah. If I’m called out as a technician to install software on a machine I’m charging more than $5 for the labour.
I used to pay a man €10 to ring microsoft and activate windows when installing windows for clients back when that was the only way for me to activate windows. I simply didnt have the patience for it. Now I can tether my phone to any PC to activate windows and most people have internet now.
It’s an optional feature. I figure it’s for old people who want to get their kids a birthday present.
Cable management is entirely reasonable, if someone offered to charge $30 to fix the absolute clusterfuck that is under my desk I’d absolutely take them up on it.
some people comes with obnoxiously many RGB fans and LED strips with their own controllers that has cables to be managed, so $30 are nothing

Frankly speaking I had people in my Computer Science class who did not know how install a software. Worse asking them to install windows was a headache 🤣🤣🤣.
So layman persons like them do exists that’s why they are charging for installation of those software.

A bit of perspective. conservatively takes about a minute to install these, based on that price, they are charging you equivalent to 300 an hour in labour. (Close to $550 CAD/hr)

Its an installer of everything, its the perfect app to pass after a decrapifier after a pc is bought. Everything there is free. Just select.
I would have killed for that site when i student in it decade ago.
Please pay me to run an automated setup script on the PC. Very labor intensive.

Someone does a job and gets paid for it, looks normal to me. Can’t all live on tips.
It’s a simple thing, yes, but some people don’t even know how to do that.
There’s also a difference between “Cable management” and CABLE MANAGEMENT, where one takes 10 minutes, and the other takes an hour+.
You also gotta remember, that for an hourly wage of 40-50$ which is often what people in that type of industry charge, 10$ equals around 12-15 minutes of “Paid” work
