The absolute GOAT of RTS. Still going strong today and fun for casual and hard-core players.
The definitive edition is up to 45 civilizations to choose from. There’s so much variety I put over 400 hours into it last year, and I still find something new every time I boot it up.

To me the greatest RTS of all time is Rise of Nations. It had ages like AoE, borders and cities like Civ, fast paced gameplay that is very challenging because the AI was quite decent and a conquer the world mode. To be fair AoE had better campaigns, more distinct Civs, and a bit more charm. But purely gameplay, Rise of Nations is king to me.
