Innovation which is what has kept Nintendo at the top and innovation is what AI is terrible at so I can see why they aren’t particularily interested in AI

>On the subject of competition, Miyamoto shared a quote from former Nintendo president Hiroshi Yamauchi. He said that, back in the day, Mr. Yamauchi would tell him and others at the company that they are not good at fighting. According to Yamauchi, they are weak, and, therefore, they should not go picking fights with other companies.
>Miyamoto explained that this had been Nintendo’s longstanding motto in its pursuit of originality.
Oh so thats why they started bullying other companies because they were no longer weak, makes sense.

People are talking about innovation etc but lets be honest. Its because Nintendo hardware wont be powerful enough to run any kind of AI models natively. They just don’t pursue that particular kind of focus compared to other device manufacturers

Innovating new ways to litigate their competitors.
Fuck Nintendo.

The company that rehashes the same IPs and same games from generation to generation is praising themselves for originality?

Once China starts using it in few years, everyone else will. Competition is brutal. Trains, industrialization, cars, calculators, mobile phones etc. We’ve seen this same dance and all the complaints hundreds of times in our history.

I trust Nintendo’s judgment – it has served them well given how long they have been in the industry (and overcome hurdles of their own).

I hate how AI bad has just become a catch all
There is so many possibilities for AI especially in RPGs with NPC personalities, unique speech, reacting to your characters actions, words and looks etc
Imagine talking with your mic to any npc, they are all unique with their own personality. Imagine sports games with commentary that is completely dynamic to your game or season. Enemies that react to your playstyle and learn from mistakes.
It’s not all just lazy creation tools for corporations to not hire artists. There is so many possibilities in gaming

Why use AI when you can just patent game mechanics and sue everyone who tries to actually innovate? That’ll make more money over all…

AI will play a important role in creating some game develop assets, and the developers can cut the develop costs. Some developers already use AI to assist art design/ test/ coding and e.t.c..
NVIDIA has already revealed its ai tech for npc ai dialogue create/game assets generation.
Another point: the ownership of copyright/patent for content generated by AI is fuzzy, the focus are the algorithm and training data.

“Law around AI is complicated and being worked out. We prefer law around original IP which we’ve figured out how to leverage to maximum effect and use to sue everyone who does our job better than we do into oblivion. That would be much harder with AI since precedent does not readily exist in cases for our lawyers to point to.”
If he’d said the quiet part loud.

Modern technology is too scary for Nintendo, so of course they won’t.

Nintendo has been half-retired, ducking actual competition, and coasting off their ancient IPs for like 20 years now lol during this time they’ve been a full generation behind the rest of the industry whether it’s hardware, software, online infrastructure, and so on and it has been wildly profitable for them. expecting them to bother with new, difficult technology like AI, VR, etc. at this point is kind of silly

Nintendo has a death grip on all of their IP and it has served them well for decades. AI would only loosen that grip

There is only one acceptable use for AI I can think of. Custom names in games. There is a limit to voice actors being able to say every name under the sun, so having AI fill just that in? Who doesn’t wanna hear someone call out “Fart knocker!” when they’re mid cutscene?!
I’m okay with that provided the voice actor it emulates gets paid a down payment for that project, and it is only used IN the projects they are paid for.
