Honestly I'll probably finish my current play through buy the time I get it but I'd like to know just in case

You’d get the call to start the dlc basically as soon as you load that save so don’t worry about starting a whole new one

I mean it’s preferable to play it early on but yeah it’s definitely playable in a long playthrough

DLC starts after the “M’ap Tann Pèlen” voodoo boy’s mission and work fine at any point after that. My 1st PL playthrough was with an old point of no return save. Hits different if you do it early so try both.

Act 3 is when I recommend you play this expansion. Do make sure to complete important side quests cuz at least some may have an impact on certain quests and interactions in phantom liberty.

I did this, and it was fine BUT you might want to make sure your save is not immediately at the start of Act 3 (ie don’t be standing just outside the VDB church having completed the mission), it messed up for both me and a friend when we added the DLC in at that particular point. Recoverable but quite stressful!

It’s a parallel story to the main game, and is better to be played earlier in the game.

However, you will likely play a second character anyways, so wait till you finish with this one and start fresh to experience everything again.
