Finishing my 100hr playthrough of RISE OF THE RONIN and had a total blast with it. I know Ghost of Yotei & AC Shadows are dominating the conversation about Samurai games right now but I think this title is very overlooked. I loved the combat, world bosses, & terrific weapon variety.

Congrats. Wouldn’t worry too much about AC Shadows and Ghosts of Yotei. People are just excited for the games and the haters are doing everything in their power to stop people from enjoying the games.

I don’t think… I don’t think AC Shadows is “dominating the conversation” for the reasons you think it is.

I love samurai games, I played only 1 in my life Onimusha: warlords

Full disclosure, the marketing campaign for this game was outright terrible. When I saw the announcement trailer for this during a State of Play back in 2022 it looked so damn cheesy and trying to do too much. Samurais with gliders? What? The graphical fidelity for a PS5 game also looked crappy. It was only due to strong word of mouth that got me to try it. I’m glad I did. Yes, there is no escaping the graphics look like they are from 2012 instead of 2024 but I can overlook that cause the games sense of fun is so good. This game really wants you to have a good time and pushes so many elements at you I never got bored once. I enjoyed Ghost of Tsushima but was irked that it didn’t have a strong enemy or weapon variety. This game addressed all of that. I also really liked learning about its historical setting. I didn’t know much about the Boshin war and the end of the Shogunate so “living” the events of that historical era in this game was also very educational to me, I loved learning about a part of Japanese history I didn’t know much about.

Tried it. Game looked like an early last gen game and was very mid. Quit after 3 hours.

I think you’re the only one I’ve heard say it was great.

I’m disappointed this game looks so dated. Ik graphics aren’t a dealbreaker for some, but they are for me. I’ve got pretty limited free time and so i gotta be picky abt what i play. I can still choose games with good graphics AND gameplay so those will always be my first pick. Hopefully whoever made RotR will drop a sequel or somethin w better graphics, i’d pick that up

  8. don’t listen to the haters, i also really enjoyed this game

it’s not revolutionary, but it has fun combat and an interesting story, i’ll likely play it again soon

I don’t have a PS5 sadly so I just stick with the Way of the Samurai games. 😄
